Just thought I would stop by and see how the duck hunting is going on the other side of the world and throw in my two cents worth from time to time.

How do your seasons and bag limits work?

Hey Flightstopper.

Our official duck season usually starts around the second week of March in the Southern states of Australia and run through to around the end of June. It can be shorter depending on the water situation.

Our daily bag limit the past two seasons including next year has been ten birds per day, but has in the past been reduced to five birds per day.

We also have coming up what we call 'Rice Season'. This is when the farmers plant thier ricecrops and have pest mitigation licenses to keep the ducks off the crops. This generally goes through From mid October till the end of December. There is no bag limit and with the exception of a couple of protected species it is a get what you see type shoot. A typical day on the rice can produce a harvest of 100 birds or more per shooter. You just have to put up with the .30C+ temps and the clouds of mosquitos though.
