Have to do it all the time. We do it once a week at the fire station.

Also, you obviously were comfortable enough to pull your phone out and take pictures, so stop acting like it was a big deal.

I didn't even think about twitching all the way on the last step.

45' ain't nothing. I've lived a 1100' radio tower before. You should be wearing a helmet at least though.

It's still a fall I don't want to take. Standing on the last rung with the wind blowing and the ladder wobbling, it made the stomach turn.

As my ironworker dad says, once you get above about 30', it really doesn't matter.

He survived a 30' fall with no serious injuries

The first towers we used in jump school were 34', and we were told some study determined one's fear of heights (or maybe jumping?) was as great there as higher.

His point was that once you get above that, it doesn't really matter. You are not going to survive. Not that the fear is less. Heights never bothered me. I could have climb around on the iron like him and his dad. I think there is probably a hereditary element. If anything, I don't have sufficient respect for heights.

I fell about 5' a couple years ago. Wholly fuck did I hit hard. I can't imagine adding 25 more feet.

You are probably right. That your fear probably doesn't increase with height above a certain distance. 34' is pretty far up there when looking down.

Jump school. So you used to jump out of a perfectly good airplane?

Five kinds of perfectly good airplanes and two kinds of helicopters and though I was having fun. Now I can't climb on a horse without thinking about how hard the ground is.

I can't climb on a horse because I'll have to jump off and run for a handful of benadryl or maybe even an epipen :o

For the most part. From an agricultural stance. They have their place no doubt but they aren't what they used to be. Pet peeve of mine.

We always kept multiple horses growing up. I know Woody did too. What business do a bunch of duck hunters have accusing something of costing a lot only to create work?
