For about 10 years I was mostly consumed with surfing, which is why I didn't hunt for a long time and fishing was relegated to shitty surf days. I'd like to surf more than I do now, but it's one of those things you don't do with any level of real success unless you consistently do it a lot, like multiple times a week. Living 1.5 hours from the beach makes that tough. A move to the coast has been mulling in my head for years.

Buy a little bit longer board and slow it down a little and you'll get more out of surfing than trying to cut the shit out of the waves if you can't go every day

I love clams. One of my favorite foods. Do you have to have any special licenses down there? How many per person and what kind of clam? I used to go to Maine with my high school ex's parents and get coolers full of clams and lobster, then head back after we got our fill. Wish I still had those opportunities.

No, no license required. (I think that must be under the radar for the state or something, since they rarely miss an opportunity to charge you for something.) They are mostly cherrystones and middle/topnecks. I'm not certain what the limit is, either- I suppose I should find that out. We usually come back with about a bushel or so, or however many we have when we run out of "refreshments" which are carried around in the floating bar that my hybrid becomes when we go clamming. They did raise the size limit form 3/4" thick at the hinge to 1" last year.

So there are regulations on it, but no season or license? Odd. I need to find a place to clam. The pics you posted looked like a lot of fun.

Harious!

Went by a place in Newport RI called "Clam Jammers", but it was closed up for the season.

I'm going to take up bow hunting after I move and I have a feeling that will move high up on my list of favorites.

Ain't that the truth. I've killed I don't know how many deer with a bow, and to this day, every time I see one coming through the woods and know I'm going to get a shot it's like I've never even shot one before. An amazing rush.

I felt that rush with the deer I shot this year. It was crazy.

I was told by buddies how awesome bow hunting was for years.

My entire bow hunting career lasted about 40 minutes.
Hung my stand the day before season opened and shot the 2nd buck that passed me on opening morning, watched him tip over from the tree and never went again.

To me there is a difference between hunting for the deer you want to shoot and shooting a deer to get it over with or put meat on the table. I'm usually out there to put meat on the table but I still hunt for the biggest deer I can find to keep it fun.

Yeah but then all the betties will know I'm 40+. And I was never much for slicing and dicing, anyway. When I do go now, it's usually on a 7'8" egg. I still look longingly at my 6'4" round pin and wonder if I'll ever rider her again.

Deer with a rifle is just a chore to me to fill the freezer. Bow actually made it fun again. Although I still wouldn't have been there if ducks were in season.

6'4" x 21 x 3 would probably do it. Make it a single or glassed in twin and they'll call you old school instead of old man.

Okay, you put a corn feeder out and hunt deer in one spot, then hunt ducks over it in another spot, and tell me which one is easier.

Waterfowling is way up on top of my list! Then a distant second would be dove, Pheasant ,and deer hunting. Striper and salmon fishing are a blast too. I was into wild pig hunting big time for alot of years but I lost my ranch I had permission to hunt. Its damn near impossible anymore to find a ranch around here that doesnt cost an arm and a leg to gain access. Basically all the other hunting and fishing I do is used to kill time till next duck season. I also turkey hunt some. I can give a crap about those big birds until I hear them gobble then its game on seeing Mr.long beard get a face full of lead.
