Wozniak also gives some perspective: When the interviewer compares Jobs to Edison, Wozniak says that’s not quite right, because Jobs’ strength wasn’t designing or building stuff, it was marketing

He says in his own words that Steve Jobs was not an inventor, not a creator and that all his strengths were in marketing. Which is what I've been saying all along. Steve Jobs was not a computer science genius he was very good at taking something everyday and selling it for more than it was worth. He sold status.
My whole point all along was that the masses/media in this country are giving credit where it is not due and are blindly buying standard parts at above standard price only because everyone else is.Wozniak also gives some perspective: When the interviewer compares Jobs to Edison, Wozniak says that’s not quite right, because Jobs’ strength wasn’t designing or building stuff, it was marketing

I think everyone here but you was trying to claim that Steve jobs "invented" a user friendly computer.

For someone like me who studies computer science and works in the information technology field it's kind of a big deal.

The best, most useful, most advanced technology is useless if people don't A) understand it, and B) have access to it. Jobs provided both.

Yes and no. Granted, if nobody has can use it or has access to it, it is by all means useless, but all the marketing knowledge in the world doesn't get you anywhere if you don't have anything to market. I think the point Olly is trying to make is not necessarily that Jobs isn't a genius, he is, he is just a marketing genius and that's all. His anger is in the fact that he gets even one iota of credit for anything invention wise. However, I don't think it's short sighted to say that the guys who made it possible are the real geniuses, as I think you would agree it is MUCH easier to market something than it is to invent it.

Look at Edison vs Tesla, and then tell me how much more difficult/critical it is to market something.
assateague wrote:Agree with your point that it takes both. But stating that Jobs was a flimflam man was just silly.

Sort of like "Man, those Robertsons work hard, making all the money they can off of duck hunting and their lifestyle". "Willie is an asshole. He didn't invent shit."
On second thought, not sort of, but exactly like that.

All I'm saying is marketers NEED inventors, inventors don't necessarily need marketers. Point: you have both invented and marketed the 50/50.
