Never saw a flop with a heart shot. Even with a 30-06. You must have some weak deer in KS.

Have seen heart shots go both ways. 2 dropped right there, 1 ran 50 yards, 2 have went close to 100 yds. Were all dead within a minute. All were with a .270 130 gn ballistic silvertip. I will gladly take a neck shot if its clear.

I've killed 3 deer with a 25-06 all of them flopped. Killed two of them with the same shot. Went strait through the heart of the first and through the seconds head. Happy accident.

Our marsh work crew thought it was pretty dang funny, but I doubt TOSH.O would have bought it unless I'd shot myself, too.

Thats cause I hand load my own special bullets.

Rick I hit one with a .357 one time out of the truck. He escaped into the timber where I am sure he died soon after.

I agree with TK here. Deer are meaty up here, and there's a lot of "dead zone" in the neck. With a .35 it might not matter, but all my deer get shot through the front shoulders.

I don't give a shit if you hand load.

I'm sorry, but unless you shoot a canon a deer will not flop from a heart shot every time. It may happen occasionally, but more often than not they will go 20-100 yards.

Im not your buddy either.

I've only ever had three deer not drop on the spot. First deer with a 20ga slug, a doe straight on, and my deer I lost 2 years ago that I shot in her rear leg. Other than that first year, I've used my dads 30-06 every year. If I put my shot right, they drop. Every time. Been shooting since I was 12, and can count on one hands the number of years I didn't get a deer. Heart/lung shots will put them down right where they stand.

Tom your handloads are no where near as hot as mine. custom action vs factory action so please dont comeback with that.

If the right spot is the spine or neck, then I'll agree. But with a lung shot a deer will almost never drop without taking a step unless it's a 60lb deer.
My uncle double lunged a 100 lb doe with a .300. It ran close to 100 yards, and when he cut it open, the whole insides came pouring out. Basically liquified the deer.

I've tracked deer like that many, many times. I'm always amazed that they could run at all, much less as far as they did, with their insides like jello. Until I got the .35.

.17 hmr with a fram on the end is by far the most deadly (park) deer round.
