Today sucked. Log floated cross the boat lane and everyone hit it. I should have moved it cuz 5 minutes after I hit it another guy tore up his motor and his bro fell out of the boat. OH SHIT! From now on its standard AB procedure to clear and such obstacle. 15 others hit it b4 I did.

Started seeing buffleheaded ducks today. They winter where I'm camped and I'd noticed they ain't here. Taking that as a hopeful sign despite knowing all the fucking ducks are on the Mississippi River on private ground.

Freezing rain shut down the whole county. Nobody is hunting today. Iced up roads. Somehow I bet the guys I know from Illinois that have club in semo will travel to hunt here today. Nothing stops them. Hope their truck stops on the boat ramp.

My buddy from Blytheville called me a pussy so I said eff it and went. Set up in a highly unorthodox spot due to scouting and watching what the ducks are doing and not doing. Limited two days in a row now.
Hawkeye76 better seriously consider gettin here to hunt this weekend.
The ducks are showing up. Been seeing all sorts of species on mallard lake by camp today.

went to Rainey brake. Big mistake. It was a sloppy mess unfit for camping. The shortcut to Powhatan was messed up bad. Took 45 min to go 13 miles cuz the road was washed out bad, real bad, or like the picture. The Black River got wayyy up.

That back road to Powhatan is usually a piece of cake. Saves some miles.

After six days and a lot of hours scouting ... driving all over NE Arkansas I finally got the right idea. Kill ducks and who cares how.
Noticed that every day when I leave that I'd kick a few ducks out of the boat lanes on the way back so one day I got squirrely, Saud fuck it and tossed out 5 decoys and a spinner in a little dip in the lane where it's got a bulg. Like a switch got turned on its hammer time. Limited in 20 minutes this morn.

It's tough right now. My buddies insisted on hunting the Hotel hole. We got 8 but only found 7 and fuck...we should have shot and didn't too many times. They were trying to get others to suck in....tornado and there ain't enough ducks.

I've had way better years and had a few that were worse.
This is my 40th duck season and have grown to expect a certain amount of misery to get to the green days.

This season I think I hunted around 30 days and killed 8 limits of mallard ducks along with a few singles and pairs.
This year sucked but last year REALLY S U C K E D !!!!!

Came home to watch football games. Might go back for a few days to hunt the afternoons at Simmon's Field.
Always wanted to do that once.

This year I got to know the guys at the boat launch that I see. There are kids from Jonesboro College, ppl from Blytheville, and guys from Missouri too. Starting to feel comfortable asking them which block (square mile) of the woods the ducks are using and they won't hesitate to tell me because they all know I'm just one guy, one gun, and a dog. I get pointed where to the ducks are in general. NICE!
