Offical 2012-2013 WFF Traveling Decoy Thread

Season typically runs from the middle of October to the end of December here. (For ducks). Goose is usually mid November to the end of January. So really anytime in November would be good for me.

If you want an extra gun for a travelling decoy hunt, I would be in.

Hellz yeah GK. Maybe we can time it right and have it the same time as MS rambler. That would be hilarious.

I'm all for it, though I'll let you take responsibility for both deeks. Running north 1.5 hours after running and gunning for snows for a week to try to find a deek I thought was on the side of a road was no fun, especially in the dark and then getting back up at 3 am the next morning.

Sounds good. I posted up on DHC to try and get the MS rambler sometime in late Nov. to early Dec. Probably would be easier on my wallet for shipping if I didn't have both the deeks at the same time. That way, we can arrange more than one hunt with the guys.

No worriess, let me know, I'll foot the bill for shipping one of them.

Splits and broken up seasons kill it. You're better off listing every saturday and just let it be first come, first served. Most guys are going to hunt on the weekend, post up all the dates of #aturdays during the season and let everybody fill in the blanks. You'll never please everybody and it rewards who checks in often.

Is the first post the 15 who are getting it? What happened to clyde. Lol, why didn't he make the cut?

Don. All his posts make me think he's getting ready to go any day now, and I was wondering. Could look it up, but I wasn't wondering that much. Our resident goose used to start mid-August, and you could take 15 a day. Now it's 2 weeks, and you can only take 9.

Yea we've limited to 15 to try and keep it simple, it's first come first serve. Hopefully the list is pretty set now and the guys that'll get it are in it for real, I'd hate to have any hicups for WFF's first traveling decoy.

Like I am down for the 6th, which means I would probably receive it around the 4/5thth, hunt it the 6/7th then send it out on the 8th for the next guy to receive it on that Thurs/Fri. I don't know about anyone else, but I will be shipping it first class to ensure it gets there as soon as possible for the next person.

I think I will be fine with you shipping regular Olly. You are only about 8 hours from me driving. Not sure how the mail is up there though.

Another thing.

While I haven't participated in any of the other Traveling Decoys, I know that the last few guys end up spending a ton of money to send a huge box around filled with a mess of sometimes, well, junk. I think it would be a good idea to keep things small, and non perishable, unless they are specifically for the guy next in line to keep. I know someone sent oranges last year in the middle of the travel, and they ended up rotting and smashed all over everything.

Not trying to be a killjoy, but just trying to be courteous for the guys down the road.

This might be "controversial", but I typically shoot quite a few banded birds, and I don't keep them/put them on my lanyard(give them to friends/family after I report them)
Would anyone be opposed to me sending them with the decoy for those that don't get the opportunity?

I'm not trying to bullrush you or the guys. Just trying organize for the good of the group. The #1 most important thing is to ship the decoy to the next victim so they will get it on time. Just think how you will be waiting on the curb for your decoy to arrive. The guy in front of you has your joy in his hands.
Second most is have fun with it, take photos and log your hunt/hunts or trips. Half the fun is seeing how others enjoy our sport.
At the end I think we should auction off the rambler to the group and let the proceeds go to Olly to help support the site.

if it's sent out on Monday mornings via UPS/Fedex it will surely arrive by Friday if shipped 3 Day.

As far as the decoy that's an awesome gesture but I'm leaving it up to JGUN to decide since he was gracious enough to lend his skill, time and money carving it for us.

Yep Yep Yep I was just looking for a way to turn our fun into a few bucks for the site.I'm guessing by the time the rambler makes it around the country it will be dirtier than a Jenna Jameson video in a Redbox machine.
