Good to know, and I figured you were being funny. I gotta tell ya, jumping those woodies was not as easy as it sounds. We had to find them, stalk them through heavy woods, and go back and get Brandy to do some heavy duty up and down steep bank retrieves.

I was totally surprised when that many came up, we were chasing a few and 50 came screaming out of there.

Wasn't really a hobby, so there wasn't a tremendous amount of concern for game laws  We jumped what seemed like 100 woodies (but was probably more like 10), and I shot one. He shot a couple, and we went back to the house to clean them. It was a blast. Unfortunately, with the increase in farm fields and better drainage systems, the swamp is small to non-existent now, unless it's an incredibly wet year, and the woodrows have moved on to wetter pastures. I'll still get a small flock from time to time circling around sunset while I'm in a treestand, but going out to hunt them would be silly, because they're just not "reliable". Good times and good memories back in that swamp, though.

Hmmm, 37 years ago huh? They give licenses out at a pretty young age down there:lol::lol:

Our duck per hunter average on that jump shoot was nothing short of amazing. ;) we let one get away too tell the others of the great Humbolt massacre of 2012!

here a kid doesn't need anything. after 12 i think they're suppose to have hunter safety and when you turn sixteen you have to buy license and duck stamp. they can even get their own tags for big game.

I believe you. Wish it was that way in NY. I have to wait until my son is 12 to let him legally hunt, but he will be pulling the trigger long before that like I was.

that's a crock shit. how in the world are you suppose to get kids involved in the outdoors with regulations like that?

i've been going hunting since before i could walk or talk, my grandad carried me every where he went. was probably five or six when i shot my first deer with no help and younger than that when i killed my first duck.

yes and you can get a lifetime hunting/saltwater/freshwater fishing license for kids under 1 for $275, ages 1-11 $450, ages 12 and over $675

Yeah, I fall in that $675 range. Probably get a lifetime within the next 2 years.

Damn, Texas hunting and fishing lifetime licenses are $1,800.

We don't have that option. What happens if you move out of state? Or is it the same for res/nonres?

There isn't a nonresident one, and I don't know what happens if you move out of state. I haven't bought one yet, don't know if I will.

You were younger then 5 when you killed your first duck? You must have been very advanced.

I still thought I was maverick from top gun when I was 5. You the man!

What he didn't tell you is that it was probably shot with a BB gun on a pond. That or is was a grebe that swam into the decoys.

the first duck i killed was a black duck and it was shot with a .410 with my dad helping me hold the gun. that's one of the few times i've ever hunted with my dad.

Nice  My dad doesn't hunt unless he has to go with me for some reason. He likes fishing. Sucks sometimes because I miss out on a lot of one on one time with him.
