I think we can all agree WFF > DHC
“If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen.” ― Samuel Adams

There's no debating that.
Whoever appeals to the law against his fellow man is either a fool or a coward. Whoever cannot take care of himself without that law is both. For a wounded man shall say to his assailant, "If I live, I will kill you. If I die, you are forgiven." Such is the rule of honor.

I don't think a lot of these guys really know what's involved. Hell, I thought it was pretty easy until I was bumped to supermod and it got worse when I became admin. A trend that I've noticed is that guys will stay mods for years, but they usually start to disappear after a year or so of being a supermod or Admin. I've had thought many times about stepping down, but I enjoy the forums too much to just walk away.

One thing that I've really liked about the ownership change is that we were told to run it how we see fit. This gives us more leeway in letting certain things go and allowing the site to evolve. There are about 4 of us that are active supermods and admins that are calling the shots. I don't know if many of you have noticed, but it's changed a lot in the last year. We'll never be as relaxed as WFF, but we aren't like we were a year or so ago.

While "just" an internet forum, there is work that goes into keeping it going. Seriously...just try to imagine the time, and effort (and money) that Olly has put into this place. For us. All of that just for a silly internet forum...

Not everything is automated. People have questions, and need help. Without the volunteers, you could be waiting weeks for someone to get to you. Especially with 59k members. While this place is small, without those volunteers, you could be one pissed off customer more often than not.

Why would someone rush to help you, if it's "just" an internet forum? The guys that dedicate their time to ensure that YOU have an enjoyable experience shouldn't be looked down upon, nor should someone that doesn't give thier time be so quick to judge what they do, or to question the idea of a monetary thank you to those that do give their time.

I'm not sure what's so hard to understand about the concept...

Now before Boot gets his jollys off reading this from me, please note: Fuck you, Boot!

And Gadwall!

Sorry Olly. I can't see paying someone to mod a duck hunting site as if its a job. If its stressful than you probably haven't had a real job in your lifetime.

i have to agree with this. i've been a mod at DHC for years, not much work going on on my end.

Hey Idaho, I'm pretty sure they were talking about the good mods, when they were talking about the amount of work involved. You're gonna have to work real hard just to get to mediocre at best over there.
