Work Day

Postby Baysider » Mon Nov 12, 2012 3:00 pm

Sandy took out every blind I had on the Chesapeake and seaside of the Eastern Shore. I spent the weekend rebuilding blinds and driving poles for boat hides. It was a lot of work for sure but a great time as well. My son joined me this year. We also had another father/son pair with us and a couple other hunting buddies. Our second split comes in Saturday. Im guessing after Wednesday I wont sleep a wink. I still have plenty to do on the floating blind, and many decoys to get rigged. Wont be long now though and we will be watching those skys again. I hope everyone has a productive and safe season.

The pics were taken at one of our leases on the Chesapeake Bay. You can see my boy was hard at work, and he loved being "one of the guys". He is only 3.

Thanks guys. It looks like Saturday we will have my brother and my son and I in the blind. Should be a fun hunt. Judging by what we saw Saturday we should at least have a pile of ruddies.

No boat hide on this one. The marsh island its on is private and leased. All of the 20,000 acres around it is refuge and cant be hunted so we have to stick to our little 20 acre island. The parking, well dead end road, is only 150 yds away and this waterway is very protected so I mainly carry my canoe and drag it up and flip it over behind the blind. If we do use a boat we put it on the other side of the island and the birds dont seem to mind.

Our boat hide blinds are mainly on the seaside of the ES. Less work for something to get taken out so easily in a nor'easter. If they do get damaged its just a matter of buying 6 more 2x6's and carrying out a load of cedar. Much easier than framing an entire blind. The previous blind didnt fair too well during the hurricane in this spot. We had two posts left and thats it. However we did find a 50ft deadrise work boat a half mile in the woods while cutting cedar. To bad the stern is blown out. The area looks like a war zone. Hopefully it will sound like one come Saturday.
