I have found the Duck Heaven.. I had a long walk into this beaver hole.. I got there a little later then I wanted there were 2 ducks allready sitting on the water.. I wanted to get near this down tree for cover and throw out a few decoys well then the sky fell out.. Must of been over 70 ducks came dropping in while Im standing up on the bank.. I couldent move shotgun over my shoulder decoy bag on my back and there are more ducks then I have ever seen sitting in this hole.. I decided to very slowly sit on my butt..WRONG !!! sounded like a 747 taking off .. In the famous words of Jase Robertson.. THERE GONE !!! I said well I will set a few decoys and stay a bit and do some calling well 3 steps into this beaver hole I sunk up to my nipples in muck.. If I would of shot a golden banded mallard in the middle of this hole I wouldent be able to get him.. so im gonna give the hole a few days to calm down then Im going to have to bring the fishing pole and a treble hook for duck retrieval I guess... I have no luck at all this year...

Take an float tube that you can blow up when you get there. Paint it black and just kinda use it to keep your self from sinking in the muck.

Hahaha damn it why didn't I see that.

Joe I used a fishing rod for years tog et my decoys up and grab downed birds. If you can cast it works very well. Those birds will be back. Most of the time when we encounter a large number in our spots we run them out and shoot them as they come back in smaller groups. Good luck with it.

Yea Joe, Beaver runs under water are sketchy and leave you going from 3ft water, to above your head in 1 step. Fishing pole, small kayak, remote control decoy, any of those should do you good until that pup of yours gets some miles under it.

Let me know about that snow goose hunt also, for $150 I'll make the drive.

This is the duck promise land !! allthough I think they took the day off today.. alot of bear hunters in the woods today so I think that got them off there route..

Its a long walk in but its worth the view..
Oh the ice wasnt there when I placed the decoys the morning temps rose and it started icing around my decoys..

there only like 15yards away but they land in the middle and like to come towards the shore line to feed . I cant get them out any further because the mud on the bottom will suck me up to my head so it has to be close enough for me to use a long branch to reach the decoys but in all honestlly I dont even need decoys there they come in anyway its a nice spot that people wont go to.. But I think with the bear hunting going on people are putting on drives and pushing them in diffrent directions or maybe they just moved on ..

If it were just a loafing (resting) pond, it doesn't take much for them to not come back. Just keep the spot in your mind for later on or next year.

I am dumb founded went today to look not hunt brought the binos not the guns not a duck on the water.. I dont know what could of happened.. Has to be the bear hunters maybe could they have went on like south ?? That sucks when I finally get some time to hunt I cant find 1 goose or 1 duck.. This has been my season of horrible luck ..anyone got a sure thing just to break my bad luck streak ??

Move to bigger water. It likely froze and forced the ducks to bigfer water.
