Coyote Hunting with a shotgun

Postby huntfishnv » Tue Nov 20, 2012 5:06 pm

Anyone on here ever done it? I have the perfect spot at one of the places I duck hunt, was wondering if I could shoot the coyote shells out of my duck gun? Actually maybe even a turkey choke and shells would work.

Will do. Do you think it would work anyway? I've seen videos of people doing it so what the hell.

A lot of people hunt them with shotguns, from what I've seen. Most using that Hevi-Coyote load (I think it's T sized Hevi-shot)

Ya it shouldn't be a problem. I've used number two shot with a full choke before. Copper platted lead is deadly out to 50yards. If you use lead I would suggest you don't do a combo trip for yotes and ducks. The law doesn't think to highly of having that stuff around if your going after ducks. ....lol if you do a comb trip I would pick up some heavy shot dead coyote. Works good with a modified choke. Then u would be legal beagle. 8-)

Buck shot is great too. But if you have them close I like something that patterns alittle better. IM no expert on this subject. I'm just sharing what works for me.

Yeah no way I was going to do a combo trip, the game warden would think I was the sky buster of the century. I would normally just use a rifle, but its on a small WMA so I'm not allowed to. It's bordered by some CRP like stuff to on side and fields on the other, so I'm sure there's some dogs out there, gotta find something to do besides ice fish once everything freezes up.

#4 buck is all I use. I dont target them too often simply because I dont find it that fun but the buckshot has never failed me. Allegedly #5 lead turkey load will take them at 20 yards when they have tits hanging off them and pups in the belly.

Do you just shoot it out of your modified choke?

Yes. I dont think it patterns well any tighter.

Did someone say my name? Only shoot coyoots within a deadly range when using a shotgun. Wounding animals for no reason is disrespectful to mother earth.
