Limits of mallards all season long

Postby huntfishnv » Fri Dec 07, 2012 10:16 pm

Or so we were told with the record number of ducks, but how has waterfowl season been for you? I hear a few people saying its been a banner year for them and a lot of hunters are saying it's below average. This has been a great year for me so far but I'm still green so that's not saying much, how about you guys, what do you think?

My worst and last year in MI.
“If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen.” ― Samuel Adams

We started off strong but within 10 days it got bad. By the end of the second week it was looking very bleak. We were doing ok but in my corner of the state we aren't holding many birds and with the lack of cold weather we aren't getting any more.

Killing em everyday. They are spooky, but killable. On a side note, a little cool weather to kill some skeeters would be nice. But then again the water isn't very cold so standing in the water in swim trunks doesn't freeze my nuts

I haven't killed a bird yet. It's gonna happen this weekend. Things are finally going to freeze around here.

I think I'm seeing more birds now than I saw at this time last year. It might be good, if it gets cold up north and here. But I still think its to early to tell.

Edit (wrong post) Hunting in the cold sucks bad but at least there is more birds around, at least there better be. I just want to shoot some mallards I've only got a few this year!

We've still got 7 weeks left, I haven't been out anything like I usually would have by now but, I have 2 elk in the freezer to show for the missed time duckhunting. My favorite hunting for ducks is divers and that doesn't really kick in until middle of December, give or take a week or two.
Now if I can't find and start killing the divers by the first or second week of Jan., then 'll be pissin' and a moanin' like a park duck hunter.

Which northern states? DU report has 750,000 mallards holed up in SD, that's enough to keep me busy.

We've got plenty of birds in MN. Things opened back up last week, Nevermind the rivers are still open and will be for a long time.

We tore that ass up in the first split. Looking kinda sad here now. Going back to Arkansas next weekend so should be much better.

The first split season was really good down here in South Texas. I went out today and manged 4 widgeons and it looks like I'm going to have to start ranging futher out to get my ducks during the 2nd split.
