I get the politically correct thing. Don't like it, but I get it. I just got around to going through my 6 year old's papers from school she brought home yesterday.
There was an invitation to send treats for the "Winter Party" on Friday, where they will "celebrate winter, and the wonders of nature", so "all can enjoy". No mention of Jesus or Christmas or religion, because that would be "bad". We all really know that only Christianity is "bad", and the anti-religion crowd has nothing against any of the others. Whatever.
So then I get to the other stuff, where there's a menorah, a handout on Judaism, and a cut out Star of David with my daughter's picture in the middle. Out of line. How about we teach first graders how to add, subtract, and spell, and save Comparative Religions for high school, mmmmkay? The Star of David really pissed me off, and I will gently and professionally inform them this afternoon that I don't want to see that crap again. I'm also giving her "Merry Christmas" cards with a Binle verse for her to give out at her "Winter Party", since they specifically asked that we not do so. Eff them.

Serious question
Assa, how many more stupid things like this will happen before you seriously think about homeschool?

I would love to homeschool, but it's just not feasible due to working, and the fact that I like to be able to go eff off from time to time, and do nothing. The oldest was in private school, and the youngest was going to go to private school, but the lack of busses just made it too difficult to get them both back and forth from school.

I see. That's a good reason.

two things that set me off about schools
1- christianity shouldn't be mentioned. but other religions are OK. 2- teachers pushing the tree hugger BS.

I hear ya Jimbo. I can't stop laughing at your situation, but it does upset me. I've encountered the winter break, holiday break thing. Luckily I've been fortunate enough to not have other religions crammed down my kids throats while they disregard Christianity though

There was a teacher at the high school here that tried to push commercial fishing as bad and needed to be stopped! How do you think that went over in this town.

two years ago Sam came home with a paper to write. The topic: Would you hunt deer? And why? I was furious. Spoke with the teacher. She claimed she wasn't opposed to hunting at all. Just thought it was a topic applicable to our environment and time of year. Advised her to be very careful of topics like these. Certain agendas may be pushed. Regardless, Sam wrote his paper. First paragraph quoted the Bible. Acts 10:13. He obviously knew of it from the Duck Commander. Then he came to me to discuss conservation and constitutional rights to finish off the paper. Turned out well

I think maybe when I go in, I will thank her profusely for having a "Winter Celebration", since it is nice to see "our pagan religion finally emphasized in schools". I'll tell we're Wiccan, and worship trees, and the winter solstice, and that, FINALLY, schools are endorsing our religion of choice. Maybe ask her if she'd like to come over while we sacrifice a virgin in a circle of oak trees on friday night. Ask if it's ok if my daughter comes to school with a burnt offering of goat entrails. Idiots.
I really am pissed about the star of david thing. Teaching young kids about religion, any religion, is not ok to me. I prefer that my wife and I and our church educate her regarding religion. How would a muslim family feel with their kids picture coming home in a star of david? How about a picture of their kid in the middle of a cross? It's more the idiocy involved with it than the actual stupid message. It's as if, in order to "ignore" Christianity, their brains just get shut off. And I did seriously get out the cards with the manger and Bible verse. I dare them to say something about it on Friday.

Do you not see how that kind of conflict in a public school is very beneficial to a child's development?

This is the problem.
They teach the things they are suppose to, then add in the extras that they want. Especially the ones that are teaching to younger students, or pliable students.

I'm not a parent, but I'd be jumping the principal's shit, then the super intendent. That's not at all in line. I'm fine with the teaching of other religions in school. Teaching about them that is. I actually believe that it is a healthy practice. However, doing cut outs of the Star of David and giving a whole lesson on the teachings and belief system of the Jewish faith, is outrageous.
God forbid that the teaching of Christianity should take place. This is the kind of stuff that only gets worse.
In the words of Darrell Scott... "Men and women are three-part beings. We all consist of body, mind, and spirit. When we refuse to acknowledge a third part of our make-up, we create a void that allows evil, prejudice, and hatred to rush in and wreak havoc. Spiritual presences were present within our educational systems for most of our nation’s history. Many of our major colleges began as theological seminaries. This is a historical fact. What has happened to us as a nation? We have refused to honor God, and in so doing, we open the doors to hatred and violence."

One question to ask Bug, did she choose what shape to put her picture in? Maybe all she sees is a star, and wanted her picture to be in the star.
If that is not the case, then this is unacceptable.

She told me it was a Star of David. Whether she knows what that means or not is irrelevant- if she doesn't understand, that just makes it worse. Don't get me wrong- it's the double standard, and the fact that this time could've been spent on adding 11+14.

6. Which is far too young for ANY talk of religions from anyone besides parents. This business of "open mindedness" is all well and good, but needs to be done at a more appropriate age.
I'm sitting here in the school office now, with raccoon fat on my boots stinking of a red foxes anal gland. I need to stop talking about this and chill out before I make an ass of myself.

I do not believe religion should be in school. In any form. Keep it out of the government too. One's beliefs should be their personal choice without it getting crammed down someones throat.
