Banded duck?

Postby Duplex Lover » Sat Jan 05, 2013 5:38 pm

My boy just shot a banded duck! I've been hunting ducks 45 years and only shot one banded duck and that was way back when I was around 12.
We registered the band and got the word back. The duck was banded in Tilly,Alberta Canada. Get this in 1999, a wild ,14 year old malled

That's very cool. Beats the hell out of the 12 year old mallard I got many years ago. Tell him congratulations. I know my band was difficult to read after 12 years how was yours?

Very cool, congrats to your boy.

Its just the luck of the draw. I took a couple kids out on the juvy hunt a few years ago, one of them (on his second season) killed a banded gaddie. I went about 8 seasons of app 200 bird seasons without seing a band.

This is so true. Got my first band my 3rd year hunting. At that time my dad had never killed a banded duck. 10 years later my dad had 5 bands and I had 3. My dad shoots between 30 and 60 ducks a year and I kill between 120 and 170 a year. It's all about luck! It will happen one day.

You CAN shoot as many as you want, but it might not be legal.
