The first day of hunting was our worst hunt of the trip as we only bagged a couple of mallards and a few widgeons. We were hunting small ponds that were within easy flying range of the roost along the Red River.
The second day hunt was much better. I got to hunt out of a layout blind for the first time and I bagged my first ever mallard. Down on the coast where I hunt we don't have mallards and it was really cool to listen to a skillfull caller work a flock of mallards into our decoy spread.

The third day was another good day as we got into some woodies which I haven't hunted since I left East Texas almost 4 years ago. They are the most beautiful duck that I've hunted.

And another thing I have'nt done is go duck hunting in the morning then dove hunting in the evening. The dove flew fast and furious for a quick 30 minutes and it was fun to bag a few. We then jump shot a pond and got a couple of gads and one of the fireman missed a canvasback. He was bummed.

The fourth day was fun and we got some mallards, gadwalls and a few woodies.

This was our decoy spread we had set out.

I also got charged by an aggressive beaver that I had to shoot in self defense.

I'm just kidding we found it dead but I did get hissed at and heard the tail whack of an angry beaver.
The fifth day was probably my best day of hunting of the trip. I had never hunted flooded timber and it was an absolute blast to watch woodies, mallards and teal zigzag through the trees and land in the decoys. It was also my coldest hunt I've ever been on as the temperature was 23 degrees. We had to occosionally break up the ice that was forming around the decoys. I folded a pretty green wing teal drake that is going on the wall.

I also had never duck hunted in the morning then went deer hunting in the evening. I had no deer meat in the freezer so I took this doe.

The final day of the hunt was also a good one as the gadwalls were decoying in nicely and I shot my first ever blue winged teal which is also going on my wall. Here are the rest of the remaining pics and hope everyone has a great 2013.
