...an asteroid WAS about to hit the earth. Do you think NASA/the government would tell us, or would they worry about the insanity which would result, and keep it a secret? My money's on "try and keep it a secret".

I think they could only keep it a secret until a few weeks/months out. The network of amateur astronomers both radio and optical is to large to stop the news of a end of earth asteroid from leaking out.

I agree with ya. But aren't there enough astronomy nerds out there that would know this things coming and spread the word via Facebook

I forgot about this. Although I think NASA would do thheir best to pooh-pooh them away, and get people to think they were just crazy kooks. Although if there was enough warning, I would still wait until the last minute to begin my retribution. I'd hate to start a week early, and have them say "Oops, we forgot to carry the 1- turns out it's gonna miss us by THAT much."

The govt is king of keeping secrets from the simple minded masses, always have been always will be.

The government always keeps secrets, hides things, and does horrendous things that we will never know about. Anyone ever heard all of the 9/11 conspiracies? Some them sound very feasible.

The obvious thing to do is keep your eyes on the president. When he disappears on Thursday...and all of Congress disappears, the VP, Speaker of the house etc...HOW do you hide the fact that they ALL packed up and left for extended leaves?

I think I'm in the minority of people that are truly okay with the idea of death. Might change when I have a family but for now if a earth ending asteroid were to be heading this way. I wouldn't panic, I'd just make my way to a warm beach with a good stock of cold brew and watch the show.

I'm with you, death doesn't phase me. If its me, family, or others. Death is part life, you can't have one without the other. We will all die eventually. If an asteroid is going to hit, I want it to hit me.
