My brother just got the first 2 seasons of duck dynasty on his Xbox and he watched em all in 2 days. Now today he tells me he is going to go duck hunting with me a lot this fall.

I disagree, thank the Robertsons for helping ruin hunting, crawfishing, frog gigging and just about every other outdoor activity I enjoy.

I think they are good for the sport in a special way. Right now it's bringing out a lot of wannabes but they will pass.

A special ed kind of way. It practically ruined most of my public hunting spots. WMA's are being watched harder and atv trails on them are getting shut down to motorized vehicles, land owners are tightening up, so on and so on.

Sounds like LA is on its way to being like California. The days of knocking on farmers doors for permission is long gone around here. Sure you can go fight the masses at the refuges but your damn near fighting for your ducks out there.

Makes it almost worth not going to public spots.

I hunt public early and still had bad experiences this year. Not because of a lack of birds because the refuges are quite good but people are idiots. We get a huge push of out of Townes around here every duck season from the Bay Area and SoCal. The have more money then sense and drive up prices on duck leases and infest the refuges for there 4 outings a year.

When you guys say the refuges are packed what is your definition of that. Like how many hunters/square mile?

We always talk about it at the lake every summer. Never ends up happening. Oh well, beers are still pounded.

This year, here, it was more kids than anything. Faces blacked out and 12' john boats with a little trolling motor on the back were everywhere this past seaon. Some of the kids were trying to make 10+ mile runs in these little boats on our river. I helped out 3 different groups that got swampped by barges. All of them were teenagers or low twenties. I had a 12' john boat loaded down with 7 people, 2 decoy bags and 4 dogs try to steal some of my decoys while I was hunting in my blind. A warning shot and me yelling scared them off. I watched em go about 200yds down and sink their boat b/c they had too much weight in it and the water was kinda rough from the wind.

It's illegal to gig them here, now. I still call it frog gigging but it's more like frog grabbing.

Ya we have no intention of using 'gigs.'

There's some sketchy boundaries on where and where you can't so that usually dissuades me.

I like the idiots. The more the merrier. Yes, they are a pain in the ass, and yes, they make things difficult. But honestly, there is strength in numbers. If you are the best, most ethical duck hunter out there, but there are only 50 duck hunters, eventually hunting will be a thing of the past. Until there are a LOT of people- idiots and all- hunting, our sport and lifestyle will be in danger. I know it's tough to do, but you should welcome these folks, and do your best to help "fix" them. Only by having lots of people interested will hunting stand a chance in the long term.

Some of the WMA's were like a group of hunters every 50 yds in any direction, on the weekends. Unless you went way to the back in there. It's about a 3 hour boat ride at least to get far enough back in there to get away from people. If you come out with any birds someone will be following you around everytime they see you.

All the refuges here have quotas and once it's full your not getting in until someone leaves so refuges here will cycle through several hundred people on a shoot day. If you do bad in the lottery you count out hunting in the am and depending on number of people you may not get in at all.

I actually tried to help a couple guys that were set up too close to some of my blinds. If they weren't assholes, I'd let em hunt in the blind with me. If it ain't on Duck Dynasty they don't want to hear it.
