I don't know if its because I'm a duck hunter, I think it's more to do with my inability to look to the side without my hand steering that direction to see what's going on

Or when your walking in a crowd of people and a flock of geese fly over and you pull out the "air gun" to "shoot" them.

You're hanging out at the park with your kids and a flock of mallards or geese come in and mentally your working the flock thinking "in order to triple, I'd kill you, then you, then you"

Or same scenario, and you're visualizing the lead necessary to kill an incoming bird.

Who needs to lead them. I wait for them to group up sitting on the water.

Or in morning briefing you chose your beat based on potential scouting opportunities in September

Just drove to the country butcher this morning to pick up some meat.
Drove two different routes so I could see where the ducks and geese are. (like it matters in March)
They're definitely here. All over the place making nestesses.

I do that too, whenever I go towards town I'll drive two different routes to look at two different bodies of water.

I think being able to drive around and see different things every day sounds like the most appealing part of being a cop. Especially if I get to scout for ducks and get paid for it.

It's the only appealing part about being a cop!

Never tried it but pulling people looses its appeal quickly.

I got pulled over the other day and that what he said it was for. I guess it was because I moved over 2 lanes in one continuous movement on the expressway. I almost started laughing when he told me that's was why he stopped me.

Excuse me sir, do you know why I pulled you over? You were doing 56 in a 55. Please step out of the car...

In all reality, my goal wasn't to be a cop, but the way it is looking now, State Trooper is my only real option. Could easily be a sheriff or local PD, but the pay is terrible.

It's bad compared to a state cop.

Indeed. State Troopers here are making around 85k after 4 years. Start out at 60 while in basic.

I saw a state PoPo today, first one ive seen in probably 3-4 months, our state police used to be a solid job, but now its a guessing game at how long theyll have their job for. Lots of early retirements and layoffs. A few years back they ran an academy, got all the guys through it, got them two weeks into the FTO program then had to lay them all off.

I got to be lectured once by a whole table full of state troopers. Had just put my foot way down deep into my mouth.
They were nice and one by one told me, "how to not get your ass kicked by the police".
One of them said that first of all you say this...
When you get asked, "do you know why I pulled you over?" You say, "no sir". and that''s it.
If you say, "speeding?"...you just admitted you were speeding.
If you say, " I don't know, maybe the dead arm hanging out of the back of the trunk?" Prepare to be searched.
ANY answer other than "no sir" is probably going to implicate you somehow.
