Today is the anniversary of Jerry "Mad Dog" Shriver's disappearence in the jungles of Cambodia on April 24th 1969. Each year I try to post something in his honor as a way to memorialize one of our countrys bravest special ops men to ever exist. We owe it to him to remember his heroic deeds. For three years he volunteered for every classified dangerous mission that came along and spent more time behind enemy lines observing their movement and interupting their operations than any other single individual in special forces history. He personally had more than 100 confirmed enemy kills and contributed to the deaths of thousands more due to his intelligence gathering.
I had the honor and pleasure of sharing a few beers with him late in 1968 at the special forces club "Water Hole #3" in Pleiku. I am convinced that some of his expert advice and counsel to me regarding jungle fighting, working with the indiginous Montagnard tribesmen mercenaries and long range recon operations is the reason I am still here today.

Just talked with a Vietnam vet for almost an hour. I must say that is my favorite part of my job is meeting people like this man or men like Mad Dog. Before we ended our conversation I thanked him for his service.
Thanks to all who served and for those of us who haven't, we owe you a debit that can never be repaid.
