That was horrible. I got an 81 on the foot test, through sheer unadulterated luck. 60 on the bill, 52 on the ducklings. But I did get a 90 on the silhouette, arguably the most important. Or so I tell myself. And I'm protesting the fact that "Black Duck" wasn't an option even once.

Delta wants everyone to get a high score. Just that kind of organization.

I failed 2 of 4, Bill. That hardly qualifies.

Some of them are pretty hard. Although outside of the ducks that we routinely kill I have zero knowledge.

If it walks like a duck and talks like a duck it is probably a duck.

I still maintain that the silhouette is the only one which counts. All the others, it's too late- they're dead and in your hand.

I don't really use any of those specifically for IDing on the wing. I think I go by body language more than anything, then color. Most of the time I don't really care though.

Never saw a canvasback before, but it seems like they have a pretty distinct look. Same with a pintail. The only one that still scares me a little is a black duck, too much resemblance to a mallard and we only get one. I'm not gonna sit there and debate whether it's a gadwall, wigeon, or mallard and miss a shot though.

I haven't seen a Can either. Scared me to death when the knuckle heads I was hunting with opened up on a flock of redheads. I was yelling at them to stop but they didn't care. Luckily, when the damage was done we were right at the limit even though I never shot.

I'm not that good of a shot either. I've never tripled and only double a couple times a season. The only thing I ever find myself really watching for are hen mallards. 90% of the ducks I shoot are mallards and we only get one hen up here, So I try and save that for a "whoopsie".

We mostly see Gadwalls, Widgeon, and Scaup. No stupid limits on them, just the total of 6. The red heads were an oddity.

You would have a stroke if you had to hunt the flocks of black ducks I do.

Would it be like when you kill a pintail?
