Experiment

I'd like to do an experiment. It's called "Democracy on WWF".

I need to do a little layout first.
The state of Illinois has admitted it's raiding the road fund to pay retirement checks for state workers.
They stole money from the road fund and put it into the pension fund.

Today they are saying that they spend 75% of the road money on roads.
I'm going to do a little poll.
The question is..."What is our priority as a state?"
Should we just quit funding the road and bridge repairs so we can pay retired people?
I am a bit scared every time I drive across that GIANT bridge across the Mississippi River. I wonder if they been fixing it with rubber bands and chewing gum.

Fire half of the current government workers. All of them. Everywhere. Effective immediately.

I should run for Illinois Governor. I can prove I'm experienced...I have a criminal record.
My platform would be exactly what y'all are suggesting. Fire all the employees and replace them with TEMPS.
That's the corporate way. Right?

They'd have no retirement benefits, no medical, dental, or anything. Replacing them all every 6 months would be a challenge but why not?

I'm in a radio controlled airplane club. There is a group of older guys that are retired state employees. Every week they assemble and gripe about which entitlement that they are losing now. Poor dudes. Thought they had it made...

So y'all are refusing to vote? I guess I'm the majority here. I WIN! Bow to my greatness!

I think Assa's comment might need a little editing...

Fire all of the non-essential government employees, then cut the budget appropriately in the essential departments (cut waste).

Then review employee retirement plans and change the future retirees plans to the equivalent private sector plan.
IE: match 2-10% depending on employment level, in some form of investment portfolio handled by an outside agency aka private investment group.

Getting rid of non-essential programs and removing garinteed retirement plans would cut the expenditures more than in half...

They did the same thing at GM (and other private sector companies), no more Plymouth, Oldsmobile, etc... and no more pensions. If only they would get rid of the UAW now.

The public sector also needs to get rid of most unions.

Doing those simple things would solve all our economic woes.

I have worked construction a lot. I know union people and non-union people.
The union roofer I know thinks everyone is in a union and has retirement like he does.
Just can't admit it's not that way. He's superior to my non-union azz in all ways. Just ask him.
He's one hell of a roofer and deserves every penny he gets paid. I love the guy but we don't see eye to eye on things "union".
He loves me because every time I hire him I let him crawl all up into my business. He's just making sure we get paid right.
He loves me because I "charge right".
His company (union) and my company use practically the same rates.

The union plumbers I have in my family are very good at minimizing the amount of labor it takes to complete a project.
Put them on a carpenter project and let them start "thinking" is dangerous. Been there, done that. I helped side their house last summer and they about killed me with their labor-saving ideas.

There is a place in our society for trade-unions. (TRADES) and that's about it.

Office workers (clerics) and Gubment workers sure as hell don't need to organize.
All they do is slow down the works.
