ok, so i recently moved in with my girlfriend into her apartment, after her previous room mate graduated and moved back home. the previous girl liked her makeup and had hair down to her ass, so i had to clean all the drains of 50 feet of hair and decomposing soap and makeup shit. now that i've gotten all the stuff out of the drains, i have a bathroom sink that is producing a sewer smell. we've tried baking soda and vinegar, running water and shit like that, but apparently those haven't helped. I'm pretty damn sure the P-trap isn't leaking, since there is no water build up under the pipes, but i'm left wondering how we'd be getting sewer gas past a functioning trap. anyone have any ideas? i'm wondering if the water can't be sucked out of the trap somehow.

First make sure the trap has water in it. No water, no stopping the gas. In a home that sits un-used the water in the traps evaporates. Check and make sure this aint the problem.
Yeah, it can sucked or pushed out of the trap but that would be a venting issue. I'd suggest going up on your roof and looking for a bird nest or something in a vent. If the trap isn't leaking and holds water, you have a vent problem.
Here is everything I know about plumbing.

Is the p trap holding water? If so, you may have knocked a hole in the pipe while snaking it out.

because they take 5 years to show up.
i pulled the trap apart, functions perfectly, no leaks or cracks in the piping. i think i figured out what the smell is. i pulled the drain cap out and in the sink overflow i can see more makeup shit. i think the overflow is full of rotting makeup. fucking women.

Your problem is that you have water in the pee trap. Drain is and piss in the sink toprime it properly.

well, as i know this girl that my girlfriend lived with, i can tell you that she is fucking nasty. she had a routine in the morning that took two hours, which basically sums it up. she thought she needed a makeup mask, used a roll of toilet paper every single morning and left residue in the sinks, on the walls and in the shower. we've spent the last week trying to clean 5mms of makeup off everything in the bathroom. i'm pretty fucking pissed at this point.
now i'm left wondering how to flush out the sink overflow.
oh, and i wake up when i have to piss, every morning i contemplated pissing in her room while she took two hours.

That's what I ALWAYS DO!!! Job security. The next day the tenant is calling about a different smell. I come in, sniff around, go get my tools, take a nap, pour some bleach down the drain, splash water all over myself and declare, "I'm done, fixed it".
Not, that's Ray's M.O. I don't do things that way but am starting to learn. It's the corporate way. Bonjour.

Look for some stuff called "Clobber", its kind of like what draino wishes it could be if it were on steroids and bath salts at the same time. Don't get it on your skin, or the sink, or any metal you don't want a hole burned through. It makes a chemical reaction that burns the junk out so don't breath the fumes. It gets hot when it works so when the p trap feels like its going to melt that's when you flush it with water.

The make-up in the sink over-flow. Break the sink and install another. If it was YOUR sink anyway.
Until then you're stuck complaining to the man in charge. First you gotta complain 3 times. Then you have to say in writing that you aren't paying rent until the problem is repaired but will put the money into an account so they can be paid in full at the time of repairs. You should go into detail about how the sink is/was clogged with hair and make-up that's rotting. If they take 5 years to fix it then...you'll be sitting on some cash a while. If they take so long you are late on rent, the paperwork kind of gets you out of late fees. It's on them.
Once you got all your t's crossed and I's dotted the landlord will be banging on your door himself to fix the sink and get his money. It's always the money.

The junk don't stink because its dried up, but its still there. You need to burn it out.
