Night Vision Test

Ok, I figured out how to do it. Sort of. I had the NVG plugged into a spare TV, which I was recording with my phone, before uploading to YouTube, which now does some automatic stabilization shit or something, which sort of further reduced the quality a bit. The image through the viewfinder is actually even a bit better than this. I was balancing the binos on the windowsill with one hand, while looking the other direction at the TV, while trying to keep a phone pointed at it, so it's a bit "jerky" at times, but the best I could do.

This is Gen1 technology, but in my opinion it's pretty good. The treeline which is in the video is about 120 yards away, at the straight ahead points. If I had crosshairs, there's no doubt that I could hit what I wanted to at that distance with a Gen1 scope as well. To save some seasickness, the first 1:50 is good, then you can skip to 2:55 to about 3:25, then 4:30 to the end is pretty good. It was far more difficult to hold all this crap steady than I thought.

The video doesn't do much justice, way better in person.

It really doesn't. There are a couple moments when it's close, but taping off of the TV is just shitty.

Brew, are the crosshairs on your scope fine, or are they sort of "in the way"? In all the images of what the view is like, the lighted reticle looks sort of "bulky".

Mine are fine with adjustable brightness so you can SIMM them or turn them all the way off if you want.

Good to know. I've never seen anything but the "simulated images" they show on the website, and, while better than nothing, those crosshairs didn't seem to be fine at all. I'm putting this one on eBay this weekend- I want a scope. Badly.

Yours is a 1+, right?

Did you need the long arm bracket that seems to be marketed along with the scopes on all the other sites that sell them, or is the eye relief ok as it is with the standard mount that comes with it?

Depends on your rifle, but forming and most rifles it's needed, very little eye relief. For my .22 mag savage I actually had to file if part if it that hung over the rear so my bolt could open, but it also has really low bases, if I bought medium bases it prob would have cleared, but its tall enough already!

Since I can't hunt ducks at night I see no need for such technology unless we're playing Red Dawn again.

I don't know a whole lot of people who hunt ducks with a .22 mag, anyway.

Assa.....that video brought back memories of all the hours I have spent staring through a starlight scope way back when. Doesn't have the green tinted images but does have the same feeling. Nowadays the technology has advanced to some really amazing equipment available to all of us. We have been running FLIR on all of our boats the past few years and it can even pick up small birds flying at night from some pretty long distances, show me buoys and small boats through pea soup fog and even which cars driving past the marina need brake jobs (heat signature)
