TV Question

Ok, I have old TVs. But I don't understand how this can happen.

There are 4 TVs in the house. All without boxes, coax plugged directly in. All roughly the same age. The one in the living room, in front of my chair, is acting up. How is it acting up, you say? It will randomly "pick" channels which have no sound. Picture is excellent, and looks just like the other channels, which have sound. For instance, the history channel has been silent for 5 days. Some channels will be silent for a day, or a half a day, and the next time you go around, they have sound. None of the other TVs do this, so obviously it's a TV problem, not a cable provider problem.

While I'm not really concerned about this, how is it possible? I've never seen TV from a coax be anything but on or off, basically clear or fuzzy. Yet here I now have "random volume channels", with crystal clear pictures on all of them. It's not like I'm buying a new TV, or even trying to fix it, just curious as to how this can happen. For now, I simply don't watch the channels with no sound.

Cut the end of the coax off, strip the wire back and put it back on.

may have to redo both ends. Also before that, check the back of the tv and see how much dust is on and in it. May just need to be blown out.

Did your sunglasses cost more than the TV?

I read about two books a week, thank you very much. But ironically enough, I don't like reading when it's quiet. I prefer to have the TV on. If I didn't have a wife and kids, I'd be living and writing a version of Walden which would make Thoreau shit his pants.
