Hey Tripod, are you and your brother gonna hit the fest this year.
Here is a promo video:

Don't miss it, it might be the best fest ever. They had to pay for more of the venue because of the number of vendors grew past what they expected.

Bet you're happy to see it in your back yard again.

I kind of doubt I'll make it. Last time I didn't really come away from it feeling like it was something I needed to visit annually. I'd be more apt to go if it was more central in the state.

I doubt you'll see that happen. The further south they go, the harder it is to get Volunteers to help and the less vendors take part.
They are kind of catering to the guys in Washington too under the current venue.
Some of the best fests were held at the current venue.
Check out what's up this year, it isn't one of the salem area fests. There are more national figures and a big ass BBQ on Saturday too($15 entry for the dinner).
I guarantee the fest you went to will not match this year's.

That's kind of my point - its the OREGON waterfowl festival and they are catering to the Portland/Washington crowd. Contrary to what the Portland residents think the state does not revolve around the northern border. Saying that it needs to be held up there to make it easy for Washington residents to attend is as ignorant as saying it needs to be in Medford to accommodate for the Californians. Why not? Its on the I-5 corridor.

JR,
It takes Volunteers, vendors and the people who come to the OWF to pay for the OWF. All three of those things were lacking when ever they have headed south.
It's been discussed and, everytime people want it more central, none of them are willing to take it over, run it or even volunteer to help out.
It takes quite a bit of effort to throw this thing together. This years fest started in the planning and reorganization just a couple days after the fest last year(which almost didn't happen).
If you know of someone up to the challenge, I'm sure the current board would be willing to listen to them.
If the right commiunity got behind it, it could be a good moneymaker for that community.

I understand it takes a lot to put together but seriously it could move around the state every year. I dont think the committee members need to set foot at the venue until setup time. If its turning a profit then it shouldn't be a problem to pay the committee members for their travels. The vendors are already travelling from wherever they are to come to the show so that's really not an issue.

Ok, scratch all that. I don't care either way. Its staying up there and I don't see myself driving 5 hours one way to essentially look through the new Macks pw catalog.

Our yearly sports show is in the same location year after year. You can find some good deals and if you want to buy a call it's the perfect time to go because you can try about 379 different ones in one place

My buddy and I made it a day trip and went a few years ago, we had fun, but it good enough to go back every year for. Now, if it were within 30 min -yeah I'd be there.

I would have bet money you were gonna say Arkansas or Louisiana.

The fest went great, for anyone interested. I got a chance to talk to Jeff Coats in person but, other than that, didn't get alot of time to wander around the fair.
The people that organized over the passed year really did a great job at reviving the festival. The addition of the BBQ on Saturday evening, after the fest, seemed to be very popular amongst the people who went.
