Fourth of July

Friend of mine has a great idea for Independence Day which is pretty cool:
Something for Independence Day. I'm going to start a family tradition this Independence Day. We will read the Declaration of Independence, and we will sign the document. Yes, we will have a barbeque, and celebrate the day with fun and activities, but I want my children to understand that they have inherited a country that was founded by men who declared their independence at the risk of their lives and property. They signed a piece of paper that existed no where else in the history of man, and which put them under risk of death from the British Crown. I want my kids to know how important that was, and have them do the same.
I have included on this post, a copy of the Declaration of Independence where I have photoshopped out the signatures of the original signers (please forgive me, you brave honorable men) so that we can sign it as a new document, a new belief in our country, our independence, our freedom. Feel free to copy and send around.

Im gunna get high, drunk, shoot off fireworks, sit down, and talk shit about big gubment liars all day long.
PRIDE...is gone. They took it, no kisses or handshakes and fucked up the change.
From, "under the dome"
Two young men watched airplane crash into the dome. They almost were crushed by the wreckage.
One said, "do you think the government built this?"
The other replied, "nope".
His buddy says, "why noy?"
The guy answers," BECAUSE IT WORKS".
True, so true.

That is a great idea AK. The more of us that pass on our country's REAL history to our children, the better!
I have given each of my children a small library of books that document every war our country has ever been involved in from the revolutionary war to the war in Iraq and asked them to pass them on to my grandchildren. Don't rely on our schools to do that any more.

You should read Pillars of the Earth. From an earlier time frame, but easily the best book I've ever read.

For many years, my family has gathered on the 4th of July for a big day of shooting. We have hamburgers, apple pie, etc and celebrate our 2nd amendment rights.

I think for the 4th of July I'll make everyone watch Braveheart and The Patriot, then read the Declaration of Independence. I'll have everybody ready to grab a pitchfork.

Have the women and children learn gun safety and shoot, too.

They already do. My wife and oldest also hunt. That's why I don't worry about the kids playing with guns- because I MAKE them "play" with guns at least twice a month, whether they want to or not. It'll be interesting when this AR is done, since they all think I'm building some sort of "machine gun" that will kick like a mule. I'm gonna have a hard time convincing them to shoot it, but once they do, it'll probably be all they want to shoot. I'll have to do what my drill sergeant did in basic- hold the stock on my nuts and pull the trigger a couple times, to show it doesn't kick. Layniebug is still limited to the .22, though- no pistols yet, since her hands aren't big enough.

I recall listening to older men trying to convince me how good and right "the good old days were".
I also recall thinking how fucking crazy they were.
Telling me how abe lincoln taught them how...as they showed me how to split a log.
Thinking back now...wish I had the maturity to try and learn from them.
Also recall thinking what good is splitting logs when I use natural gas for heat?
Careful, or the young ppl you want to impress will walk away muttering, "crazy".
I know you are right. We all do...but try convincing a 14-yr-old boy...TRY.

I guess technically Layniebug hunts, too.

I think the DI would also put the gun on their chin and shoot it.
I can send you a clip of my wife shooting one if that would make them feel any better.

I already pity the young man who comes asking your permission to take your daughter on a date. ( that day will come sooner than you think)

I will head down to visit my family down around the Fort Leonard Wood area. We will ride fourwheelers, go on a float trip, and watch a few cars go by each hour. In between, I'll head down to my brothers and check out his new lab puppy that he picked up as a birthday gift from his wife and offer what pointers in training I can.

Probably her enlightened teacher.
