Any Hr Professionals/Hiring Managers out there?

I am currently employed, and have an interview with another company on Friday for a position in management. My current employer is pretty lax regarding facial hair, so as some of you know I have a rockin' beard going on right now.

If you're a hiring manager, would someone showing up for an interview with a beard, rather than being cleaned up be a put off from the start?

I don't want to cause any unnecessary stress or an alarm with my current employer by coming in all cleaned up out of the blue if I don't have to...

I don't want to hurt my chances by not cleaning up, but at the same time, I don't want to cause a riff where I'm at potentially for no reason. My hope is that the interviewing company would understand my position in not wanting to cause a stir where I'm at if it isn't necessary.

Anyone have any insight from an HR or hiring standpoint? And yes, I understand that I can shave the beard, and it will grow back...that's not the problem. I just don't want to cause an issue if I'm going to be stuck here for a while...

Thanks for any input boys.

Why would shaving your beard cause an issue? And if a trimmed beard cost you a job is a job you really want?

It could cause an issue because they would "know" that I'm looking...I've been here for all of my adult career, and it would be pretty obvious if something this drastic changed out of nowhere...

There won't be any bullshit coming out. I've done too many interviews to know that's not the way to go, and it's just not my style. What I think is what you're going to hear.

That will probably cost me more than a beard would, or pay huge dividends...

When it comes to this, I can't diasgree...this is the only place I've known. I haven't been on the other side of an interview in over 9 years.

Trimmed beard/facial hair = fine

Yeti = interview over in :30 or less.

As horrible as it sounds, if I don't like you within 2 minutes of meeting you, you're toast and wont get serious consideration.
And if you're serious about impressing me and convincing me that you're the right candidate, you're appearance and first impression better be zeroed in.

I agree with the 2 minutes part. When I interview people I do the same, but try not to let appearance be a huge factor. The first few words you say are the biggest deal to me.

Tell them that shaving your beard was the only way you could get rid of those damn crabs.

Tell them your beard is religious. It's win win, you don't have to shave and will get the job so they don't have to worry about the trouble of not hiring you because of religion.

Dude, your competing with other people from Illinois. If you can catch your drool before it hits your lap they'll hire you on the spot.

Still don't understand the big beard in the summer. I blame it on the Robertson's. I'd shave it if I were you.

I can't believe no one has asked what type of business. I mean if you're going for manager of a sporting goods retaiiler or, landscaping business or, some type of investment brokerage. Really, it all depends, it's relative. Just saying management doesn't define it enough.
I'm of the school if you think your beard is a problem at the interview, do you really want to work for them?
Are you willing to remain beardless through out your term of employment? If not, then don't shave. That doesn't mean you shouldn't trim it up some.

It's for a distribution center for a national retailer. DC Manager is the title of the position.

Good thoughts QH. Thanks.
