Hunting with wives?

Postby 3geese4me » Wed Jul 10, 2013 4:10 pm

How many of you guys hunt with your significant others/wife? I find year after year that my wife is more reliable than most of my "hunting buddies". I can pretty much guarantee that she will not go running her mouth about where we hunted and is always on time.

I'm not married but I've taken girlfriends of yester year on hunts before. I don't see the point of being with someone if you can't share your interest at least some of the time.

My wife does not duck/goose hunt, but she does deer hunt. The few times a year she goes out we always have a good time. She also likes going fishing with us. I like to see her enjoy some of the things I do. She understands why I like to spend so much time doing them.

I DONT HAVE ANYTHING AGAINST ANYONE TAKING THEIR WIFES HUNTING. THE FOLLOWING POST IS A SPECIFIC RESPONSE TO PRIOR POSTS IN THIS THREAD. THESE ARE MY OPINIONS, THE READER SHOULD USE THEIR OWN JUDGEMENT IN ALL MATTERS AND REGARD MY POST AS NOTHING MORE THAN ONE MANS OPINION. I AM, FOR THE RECORD, VERY MUCH IN FAVOR OF WOMEN BEING INVOLVED IN THE SHOOTING SPORTS.

Olly wrote:I'm not married but I've taken girlfriends of yester year on hunts before. I don't see the point of being with someone if you can't share your interest at least some of the time.

I have begged my wife to go hunting with me for over 21 years. She has turned me down 487,163 times. I will ask her another 200 times this year just to make sure.

The point of being with someone is to share interests. We do a lot of things together. By my calculations we have shared over 16,000 meals together, 4 houses, 40 cats, a dog, and 350 movies. We have painted the inside and outside of those houses, planted trees, gardens, lawns, flowers. We have traveled to a dozen countries together. We have spent at least 7,350 nights together. We have been to each others parents funerals.

Hunting is not going to be one of the things we share in my case. It has 3 things that are total deal killers for her:

1) Waking up early....no way
2) COLD....No fucking way!
3) Blood and guts...nope

After a while, some time spent with the fellas is a good thing. Spending time with the KKK lets me unwind. Most of the conversation we enjoy in the blind is not suited for a G rated audience.

She never forces me to go see ballet, etc and I don't force her to go duck hunting.
I do keep asking her, knowing the answer in advance.

The good news: She does enjoy shooting with me. She was anti gun when I met her. Now she is very pro 2nd amendment and has her own guns, etc. She has taken a number of NRA pistol classes with me.

We love each other and will die married together. One of the things that will never happen is hunting together. I am ok with that.

Should anyone feel the least bit butt hurt, I apologize in advance and ask that you please re-read my statement at the start of this post.

She's tried it and it's not for her. Early, cold and wet is a no go. Deer, dove or fishing she is all for it which is the way I'd prefer. They are the easy less straining of all the options so I don't have to drag her ass around and pick up the slack.

My wife deer and duck hunts, but until Layniebug is a little older, one of us has to be at home. And in the fall and winter, that someone is my wife. She outshoots me with a bow (but not a rifle), and usually outfishes me. Which is why we rarely go together more than once or twice a year.

I do just about everything with my wife but we have a deal, she doesn't hunt and I don't shop. It keeps us both sane.

Mine fishes with me a little, but hasn't hunted with me. She says she wants to go, but when it gets cold and rainy that's it. I wouldn't mind her going once in awhile, but wouldn't want her going all the time.

She's insufferable. There is one now shooting trophy in the house, and it's hers. If you think she doesn't trot that out every time company's over, you're crazy.

The last girl I dated was an avid hunter/fisher and it sucked. Thought it would be cool, but my friends hated it and she was like a fly in vaseline with waders on. Only plus, she was 10x better at getting game cleaned and in the freezer than my beer guzzling buddies after the hunt.

x2 on TK's post, but without the impressive numbers that go along with being saggy balls old...My wife will not kill an animal, but she gets invited all of the time. While I would like to have her in the blind at times to spend some "different" quality time together, it's nice to have something of my own.

Well it looks like some wife's will share interests and go hunting but many will not.

Olly, will you be disappointed if you end up with the right woman and she has no interest in the outdoors?

A couple of years ago I planned a duck and goose hunt with my wife up in north eastern California. After the long drive from the house we finally arrived and did some scouting that evening and found the birds. It was a high of 55 that day so it was looking good. Late that night some big weather moved in and the snow along with the temperature started to fall. When we got out to the spot that morning I said " I'll grab the decs and the guns, lets GO!" The look on her face was priceless, her reply was " I think I'll just say in the truck and read my book." It was cool, she had a couple of her books with her and every now and then jumped out of the warm truck to take photos of the mountains and sage flats. She by far enjoys dove and deer hunt more then waterfowl. She still goes out a few times a season with me, just enough for her to not become annoying. ;)
