Got informed when I got home from work that my second oldest needs braces. There's 5 grand up front.
Wonder if the orthodontist needs an hvac system?

Try another doc, we had 1800 wrapped up and possibly another grand for the second go round, is there surgery or something?

Ya some surgery I think. After the wife hit me with the number all the rest of it was a blur. I sorta just faded off into a happy place.

All I know is he wants all of his money up front.

the way it worked with my daughter and her ortho, she gave us a price up front in getting my daughters front teeth where they were supposed to be, included all braces, retainers and visits for two years for 1800$, noted that it may not be the end if treatment as there may be some bite adjustment things as she gets older. Let us pay 100$ a month if we wanted. I would be leery of giving any mouth hatchet 5k up front

Never heard of all up front, either. Ours was $1500 up front (billed to insurance), then $200 a month. For 4 years.

Serious? It was 30 bucks for the consultation, might be worth a couple grand to pay that at a couple different orthos.

John, my wife asked how long ago your daughter needed braces?

Both of our boys needed braces and had one tooth that did not come in. I made them wait until they were 14 before I had them put braces on. Our guy worked with our insurance and it was scattered out in monthly payments during the duration of the correction which was around three years. It worked well for us. I wouldn't pay up front and I would consult with other doctors about the whole deal as well ass consult your insurance about coverage etc. Welcome to parent hood

Insurance says its not covered because its not a mandatory repair, doc says its necessary because it will likely cause other dental issues later on.

If it was just a "make his smile better" thing it'd be a different story.

It didn't cost us anything up front. Although it is a special "orthodontia" rider on the insurance, but does fall under dental. May want to check your policy just to be sure, even though I'm sure you have. The covered amount was the "down payment", and then the rest was spaced out over the next 4. We have quite a few friends with kids with braces, and I've never heard of anyone havinng to pay anywhere near full boat up front. More like a grand or lower, for those folks without insurance, then the rest in monthly payments. Definitely shop around. Orthodontists are a dime a dozen around here. I would recommend picking an office that is comfortable, since you're gonna be there once a month. Ours has an x-box, Wii, g may k-cup coffee maker, Pink Floyd, The Who and the like on the Muzak system, wi-fi, and comfy couches.

I don't want to be a dick, but I will anyway.

Wife called the insurance company to try and get a handle on the whole c-section, hospital stay business.

They went over the coverages and she says "Wow. You've got a pretty good plan." The wife says "Oh, we'll that's good - so how much??"

"$10.00 co-pay, the rest is covered at 100%"

Since we've established that I'm hood rich, maybe you guys would like to pass the hat and help a fella out???!

If I'd had this coverage 11 years ago when the first one was born, I'd be driving one of them 15 passenger vans challenging you for top-breeder status.

My brother is a dentist here in Redding, I am sure he would be willing to talk to you about the problem and recommend someone else, if you need. See what the second guys says though, my brother said there are a few guys out there right now, doing "extra" work on people just to make some money. Times are tough. Going to the dentist is one of the things people stop doing first, when money is tight.
