Who is responsible for your outdoorism?
For me the answer is simple, for the most part, my Father is responsible.

While all of the above pictures are from the later part of his life, Dad always made time to take us hunting and fishing.

I think it's genetics that skip every other generation. My son seems to have turned out more like his Grandfather.

Pretty much self taught. A few good friends have helped tremendously, though.

My dad is a douchebag. He took me hunting a few times to please my mom but really didnt need his son tagging along while he was out whoring it up. (Hunting)
A well-known author named Jack London is why I hunt. White Fang is my favorite book. Read a few of his books and you will see why I am the man I am. Robert Ruark also inspired me.

I agree with this. My grandpa- to the best of my knowledge, my dad never hunted.

Now that you mention the grandfather connection. My mom's father is really who made me who I am.
Gardner, distiller, hunter, etc. He was a coal miner. Was a great man. I never heard him cuss.
Loved him dearly. I will be searching in heaven for him.

QH coming through with some awesome new threads!

Like many, I got my hunting heritage from my grandfather. He was an upland hunter, but not a waterfowler. Pheasant/Rabbit combo hunts were how I grew up.

My dad contributed to my love of the outdoors. He was a scout leader for as long as I can remember, and had us out camping more than any other guys that I knew. Made it all the way through to get my Eagle because to those two.

Pops and grandpa are also the cause of my disdain for wardens. Grew up with little regard for fish and game laws

I didn't even know there was such a thing as a license or regs until I was about 12.

My family are casual hunters, typical 3-4 days a season deer hunters.
I've always had a strong desire to hunt and be outdoors, my folks could never figure it out - but they never discouraged it.

My water fowling mentor was the janitor in the elementary school - he ha a son that was the same age and grade and we were good friends. We all stared duck hunting together when I was a freshman in high school, and have remained friends for the past 25 years.

He's got cancer back in 1998 and has slowed down a bunch - now he gets out when I take him (which is whenever he wants), but is usually 3-4 times a year and early in the season before the weather gets ripe.
I had the pleasure of taking all of his grandsons on their first diver hunts - keeping the traditions alive.

Here is a pic from one of those inaugural hunts a few years back...

Thanks Hal.

May sound weird but the Boy Scouts introduced me more than anything. Dad taught me to shoot though.
