Finally uploaded my pics. Going to get busy this afternoon posting the hybrid build thread down in the boat forum. In case you're still interested. I sooooooo badly want to build another one of these, but I just don't have the time. Dammit.

Disregard. I just uploaded two discs full of pics from my old computer, and none of the hybrid pics are on there. I have no idea why. Now I'm gonna have to "investigate", which is going to involve starting an old broken computer I haven't used in over a month.

No rush. No telling when I would even be able to start. Right now just curious.

I want to build one too. I only have a couple places that I could hunt with them though.

Just about everywhere I go one would come in handy.

Im either going to buy one or build one at my next unit. I find myself hunting alone more often then not and I think it'd be cooler to have a smaller boat with a little long tail on there.

Sent from your honey hole.

That's exactly the set up I want so bad. Have to go a little bigger now with the pup though

You'd be surprised. That's what I thought, too, and I use that little thing constantly. Granted, I don't have a bigger boat, but I've never felt handicapped by that. That thing will scoot anywhere I want it to.

You ever take it across any larger bodies of water? You see, I have this beast of a river called the Mississippi. It's not to be toyed with.

I know I've posted this before, but I enjoy watching it, so I'll post again. I feel safer in this than I ever have in any jon boat.

What was total cost on that thing again?

I don't remember exactly- I want to say $290, everything up to and including paint. Every other time I've been asked, I have had the receipts (for no apparent reason) handy. The biggest chunk by far was the poly resin. I think that alone was $110.

Dang, how many hours though?

Probably about 40 hours, max, including drying time for the resin and paint. It's really not that time consuming, believe it or not. I was winging it- if I would've had some sort of plans, I expect it would have gone much, much quicker.

I see this happening in my near future. What motor is on it? Or have I missed that already?

It's a 3.5 hp Nissan. I'd like a 5 hp, but can't find one cheap which has an integrated fuel tank. Don't want to have to deal with lines and an external tank in that little boat. The 3.5 is plenty, but there have been days when the wind and tide was ripping against me, and I was wide open at a crawl. That's the only reason I'd like a little bigger motor- so I don't get blown all the way across the bay.

It's been through 2 full seasons, and 1 1/2 fishing seasons, treated VERY roughly, and is still as good as the day I finished. Don't let anybody tell you you need that high dollar epoxy.

That being said, if I was in a place with rocks (there are literally no rocks to be found on the Eastern Shore) I would laminate one layer of Kevlar cloth on the bottom just for piece of mind. Don't know that it would help, but it'd make me happier, and the cloth isn't expensive at all.

I wouldn't foresee me getting out of the swamps with mine. The Mississippi just scares me too damn much.

I can see that. I need to have a close call in mine to put things back in perspective. I have entirely too much confidence in that thing. About half the times I went out last year were during small craft advisories on the bay, and once during a gale. Didn't kill a damn thing, but wanted to honestly say I hunted a gale at least once. There was no way I could have videoed that day, with all the spray and wind. (and for the record, that was one of those times I was referring to when wanting a bigger motor)

Hmm most of my public land spots are rocky. It looks worthwhile otherwise though.

No rocks here. How do you haul it?

I have a utility trailer to put it on, but it's go in a truck, no problem. One of my favorite spots to hunt, there's no ramp (really no launch area at all). I park next to the road, slide it off, and drag it with the rope down to the edge of the marsh, then float it out. It'll float in about 3 inches with the motor up. I drag it with the motor propped up, loaded with dekes, blind bag, all my crap about 60 yards to the water, through grass and brush. It's not tremendously fun, and would be easier if I unloaded and made several trips, but definitely doable. If I had to go any further, I'd rig up some removable wheels to attach to the motor mount somehow.

It's not very heavy.

I just found the receipt. The fiberglass cloth, tape, and resin was $179, the wood was $27 (I got three sheets instead of two), handles were $9 total, paint was $16, bondo was $23, for $254. Granted, I had some 1x6 and plywood for the transom, bulkhead, and nose laying around, but even that wouldn't add much more than $30.

Posted a thread in the Boat Forum. Hopefully it makes sense- it was a bit long winded.
