Well, not really Olly, but the United States Coast Guard. I had no idea they have been around since 1790. Enjoy your day off!

I said continuous, the army was disbanded for a while after the war...
Most of the Continental Army was disbanded in 1783 after the Treaty of Paris ended the war. The 1st and 2nd Regiments went on to form the nucleus of the Legion of the United States in 1792 under General Anthony Wayne. This became the foundation of the United States Army in 1796.

I'll let Olly enjoy his glory. As long as Dale doesn't chime in with some Air Force shit, it's all good.

That's the closest to "you're right, I was wrong" I'll ever hear Assa say. I need to cherish this moment.

Oh and I don't get a day off. First time I've ever worked on CG day if I didn't have duty. This recruiting command sucks, back at head quarters they are doing something tomorrow so none of us get the day of for it.

Ok, cherishing over.
The army considers itself to be descended from the Continental Army and thus dates its inception from the origins of that force.
Disbanded or not, even if only two brigades remained, it's 1775, dammit.

Sorry Assa, you can't call a loose force of men the Army. The United States army wasn't created until 1796. The revenue cutter service which is the CG before it was renamed but same service was founded by Congress in 1790. Last time I checked there wasn't even a United States in 1775...

Wait, you just said the CG got to "rename" itself, but it still counts. So how about this one:
The Congress of the Confederation officially created the United States Army on 3 June 1784 after the end of the Revolutionary War to replace the disbanded Continental Army

Not the same congress.
By your logic you should just say the United States Army was founded in 1707 because that's when the British Army was, most of the Continental Army was made up of prior British officers.

Wait- you just said the Coast Guard didn't exist, but was formed from something called the "Revenue Service". So why do you get to count that?

And since you claim it takes an act of congress, by the "proper" congress, and not just merely the existence of something, then you are left with a birthday of 1915:
The Revenue Cutter Service and the United States Life-Saving Service were merged to become the Coast Guard per 14 U.S.C. ยง 1 which states: "The Coast Guard as established January 28, 1915, shall be a military service and a branch of the armed forces of the United States at all times."

Same thing just a different name. Was never disbanded. Assa, I'm sorry man you're wrong this one single time. Nothing you can ever say will make me see it any other way then the Army was disbanded for a while and later created after the Revenue cutter service which would later be renamed the CG. Sorry.
