Now that the election is over and there's no rioting here it seemed safe enough to go do a quick duck hunt.
It was high clouds. Sort of hazy.
40 degrees.
Light winds that increased to around 15 mph SSW when I left.
Saw lots of high flying teal in flocks of 30 or so early.
Couple exiting flocks of gadwalls.
Two mallards tried landing in the decoys. Dey don't move no more.

Most everything I saw was flying high and heading south so get your guns ready down there.
Next storm and the big ducks will start getting here I hope. Two park ducks on the strap is not what I call a stellar day.

Having my own turkey day today. Whole turkey just for me. Haha.

Not dead, just having a hard time picking up interwebz from the cave. Got new neighbors through the holler they are home a whole lot more than the last fellers. Makes it hard to use their computer gizmo when they are on it!

Fuck that too. Could literally travel 1000's of miles chasing rumors of "they were there yesterday".
I'll keep hitting my old haunts until the ducks show up and then leave. It'll happen between now and Christmas.
Then I'll migrate. East-central Obamaland is a duck desert. I'll head to shangri-la when my spies start texting me.
It's dry there right now.

Also this happened just two houses over from my house tonight. Everyone is fine but the owner lost the shed he does his small PC repair business in feel bad for the guy.

There still ain't no fucking ducks here. Had one hen mallard working the spread but she out-foxed me.
Got bored so I packed up and scouted about 4 miles of shoreline. Found a cove full of common mergansers and I think I jumped the same four gadwalls that I shot at last time.

That shot is deceiving. The decoys are like 25-30 yards from the blind.

If anyone wants to shoot mergansers...they're in "cormorant cove". (it's a nasty spot)

Totally understandable with the clusterfork we have............I always stick an out of the way spot, away from the masses, and get there early to avoid the crowd at the launch. Learned my lesson long ago when trying to hunt the bays. Stick a prime spot and arrive opening day to find 2-3 new blinds and pop-ups surrounding it, within 80-100 yards ..........cause it's public land and they want to shoot some ducks too With the drought affecting the areas North of us, we've had quite a few arrivals lately, mostly grays, but with a sprinkling of teal, redheads, pintail and adding our local Mottles, should be a decent opener. Curious to see the effects of the new refuge areas, and hope that they help keep a few birds around. As it stands now, there is somebody hunting every bay, every day, and the only refuge the birds have had has been out in the middle of Mobile Bay. Good Luck in GA!

There is so much pressure these days that the ducks are learning to avoid public or any land that's guarded with guns.
That lake where I go used to be mine all mine for the whole season. There was a handful of us waterfowl guys but now...omg there are scores of people and they come from all over the state. Why? Because the state has been mis-managing all the better areas. Clinton Lake in all honesty sucks as a hunting destination but it's the nearest one for me.
I get all my clusterfuck hunts out of the way there so that when I get to the real deal I'm in proper form at the boat launch etc. Take more than two minutes launching and them Ar. guys start screaming.

Logan's getting pretty big. Was born super premie. Has speech problem from tubes being jammed down his poor little throat.
He calls me "Pah Caw".
