He's like that old guy on the mountain men tv show. He uses a "wicker basket" type pack for hauling around his trapping gear.

That's an excellent idea! Those baskets are handy, but expensive as hell. And for the record, I'd shorten those chains a LOT. What he's got will give a critter over a foot of pull, which is too much. I only keep one link between trap swivel and center swivel, and one link between center and stake swivel. Makes them easier to set, too, because there's not a ton of chain in the way under the trap.

I would think that would depend largely on what you are using as a staking system. If I were using a single rebar stake, I would think a longer chain wouldn't necessarily be a bad a bad idea as it applies all the force laterally to the stake instead of being able to pull straight up and pump the stake. I've always used Pogo style anchors with about a foot of chain, seems to do the job just fine.

I take it he has been hanging out over on the trapper site. Lot of guys have that and similar set ups. It keeps his hands free to give the beat down on critters, when he gets to the trap and needs a quick free hand to "dispatch" issues.
Good job TrapperDev.

I've just always been leary. The longer the jump, the more likely it is to pull out, no matter what. No animal is strong enough to pull an anchor without a running start, and the closer I can get to "no running start", the better, as far as I'm concerned. Plus, I like to stake under the trap, and it's a lot easier without a ton of chain to try and get underneath there.

Although now that I think about it, I think Jr had some drowning sets as well, in which case you're right, it doesn't matter.

You like the pogo anchors? I've avoided them, simply because I don't like having to carry another tool in the bag for driving them. Think I might try some berkeley anchors this year, though, since I can drive them with a regular rebar stake. Gonna set more traps than ever, and don't want to have to tote around 40 stakes on the first couple days. You ever use them before?

Berkleys are GREAT anchors. You wont ever get them out once you drive them in...

That's a handy trap "basket" Jr's fashioned for himself.
Hint: He needs a separate small compartment in there to keep the lure and bait stored and their scent away from his traps.

In 1503, Arabs were the first to use a goat's intestine as a contraceptive device. Two hundred years later, an unidentified Englishman improved on the concept by removing the intestines from the goat first.

Can't remember where I read that a while back, but it still cracks me the hell up.

The catoffthecountercontraption
String pull fireworks and snap poppers on the catapult make this one quite effective, a kibble or two under the string for bait
