For some reason the last few days we have had a ton of dead doves in front of our building at work. I counted 8 this morning, and I couldn’t figure what was going on considering this has never happened in the 8 years I have sat in the office, I have never seen anything like it. So I get to thinking and decide that either the doves are being shot and thrown in front of the office, or they may be getting poisoned somehow. I thought a little more and realized there is a 80 acre sunflower field planted right by the office as of this year, so maybe they were in fact flying into the windows. I went up to my desk and looked out the window and saw the picture attached below along with several others, you can see this bird was in flight, wings straight out, and hit head first. Craziest imprint I have ever seen, and these birds are doing this by groups of two and three. You can’t really see in the picture but up and to the left is another imprint of a dove, I did outline the main one in blue in this picture.

If you click on the picture it gives a lot better view.

Crazy doves killing themselves. Don't they know people pay to do that?

Heck I may just go sit there opening day and pick them up as they run into the building.

Thats a pretty cool pic. I've heard of birds flying into windows at night if the lights were left on, I wonder if thats whats happening. Shit, clean out the dead ones and pick up the fresh ones in the morning. That should get people talking.

With the building facing west I am thinking a glare off the windows has something to do with it. Just weird that all of a sudden we have doves smacking into the building. I am not sure what would freak folks out more, me clearing out the dead ones or picking up the fresh ones.

I told my boss that the imprint would make for a sweet looking bird coming out of the hood of an El Camino, or the back of a denim jacket. She didn't think it was as funny as I did.

It's the reflection of that tree in it. To them, it looks like they're flying right into a tree.

You can cut out some shapes from printer paper and tape them to the window, and that'll stop them from flying into it. If you in fact want to do that.

I may do just that, I'd like to keep as many around as possible so I can shoot them. It's the conservationist in me.

Screw that. Tape a picture of a sunflower to the window with a sign that says "free bird seed" pointing to it.

I've got it! fasten skewers to the outside of the window and the doves will impale themselves. All you need to do then is set up your truck on the lawn and kabobs will fall from the sky.

Yes, but I have to get "Made in America" stamps put on the glass so everyone knows they are enjoying a quality product and the "eagle" photo isn't just bullshit.
