Kids sports...

...nowadays are killing me. My 11 yr old daughter, Maggie, is being recruited by this local all star soccer team. Seasons already started and they're offering her a much discounted rate to be a "guest player." Sounds like a recruiting ploy to me. Regardless she's currently on a team and will finish the season with em. But in the meantime will practice once a week with the new team and play in a couple local games. Then next spring will join the new team for good.

But the cost has...my mind going places its never been...like maybe knocking off a bank or armored car. They fundraise, but I have a strong hatred for fundraising.

However it's a great opportunity for her to play and grow under a very good coach. I like him. Some english dude. Not personable at all. Avoids the parents. Just a soccer coach. And knows his shit.

The sacrifices we make for our kids huh.

Sorry Sam you can kiss college goodbye

It's really just organized beggary.

I feel your pain, Red. When the kids finally quit cheerleading, I felt like having a party. $100 a month, not counting competition entry fees, uniform fees, travel expense, and hotels, for 11 out of 12 months a year, for 6 years almost ducking killed me.

Now the oldest made the high school soccer team, so it's a lot of time, but no money, thank God. Layniebug wants to take karate ("before I hurt somebody"), but we're still debating that one.

because I don't like putting people on the spot. Sending cute little kids to the door asking for money is unfair. I don't wanna put folks who're in a bad spot financially in a situation where they have to say No to a little kid or give money they don't have

yea the high cost of joining this team doesn't even include travel expenses. However the deal was with basketball and soccer, she will not ask to do cheerleading, which she's agreed too...Thank the Lord. I'm just torn between giving my kids the best opportunity to be successful and being reasonable about it

I played Select soccer as a kid for two seasons. It was expensive, lots of travel, my parents, particularly my dad, absolutely despised it. It took time away from everything else we normally did together...hunt, fish, va tech football, beach, etc.
Eff travel soccer.

When I got both my boys out of daycare I was so excited to be saving $1000.00 a month. I was thinking finally I can buy that new shallow sport or gator trax. Then along came kids sports and yep I still don't have a boat other than one I have to paddle.

My boys were playing football but they had practice 4 days a week for 2 hours and games on weekends. My wife is now gone during the week for physician assistant school so I'm a single dad and couldn't handle that schedule so I now have them in karate. I'll get them back into soccer or football next year.

I don't mind the kids selling cast bars and such, its the ones you see in front of food stores just sitting there with a hand out jar that makes me nuts. I refuse to hand money to beggers. At least do something to earn your money.

I was the same way when my kids were young. So, I just took them to the inlaws and had them ask grandma and grandpa to take the shit to their work and sell it. It worked out perfect because grandma was a supervisor and , well, you know, who's gonna say no to the person that set's their raises.

There's a reason why I only shoot trap and hunt, because trap shooting is some expensive shit! And it does put a dent in my wallet every time. I finally figured out why my old man cut me off from paying for the sport. Easily each tournament costs me at least $100 just for entry and day fees. Plus add in expense of shells, money options, and practice tickets now we have another $100 for that. Then add in your trap gun:Perazzi TMS about $5,000 and shooting eye ware, another $150. Just for shooting 2 days, shooting 200 registered targets, and 50 practice. We're talking almost $300. Add in 2 tourneys a month that's $600, and not counting gas to travel around MT. I'd would just be glad your kids don't shoot trap. I spend at least $2400 for four months of shooting not counting gas money to travel around.

Best Regards,

Rex Chapman

PS: I pay for all of this to.

Nope drive my beat up '94 GMC Sierra. My guess is you guys don't realize there's a lot of money in building barbed wire fences. Ranchers out here pay damn good money per yard plus add on if its mountainous or rocky terrain. For the job I've been doing for the last few weeks, I have been getting $0.33 a foot. Pretty decent. And no I am not a troll, just a 15 year old high school dumbass. :)

Do you win any money shooting? I used to do ok by betting the options and coming in the money for the purses.

I shoot caps better than 16s, only reason I play options. The best I've ever done wa at the hopper shoot in Missoula with a pair of 98s. I walked out with $1250 playing all the options. Man were all them older guys pissed.

Not a normal 15 year old. I'm not a wigger or even close. Just something I've always written down when ending a letter or something along those lines.
