Work getting in the way

All last week during the week while I was forced to work the conditions were perfect. One of my retired cop buddies hooked into 13 tarpon and landed 7 one of which was a 140 pounder on Thursday. Woke up this morning all pumped up and ready to go tarpon fishing in the morning then White Wing dove hunting this afternoon.

Unfortunately the thunderstorms have rolled in and we went out anyway but the damn North wind stirred up the water and sent the Tarpon to the depths. Didn't get a single hookup. Now its raining and I'm on the couch watching Drake's Migration and dicking around on the internet instead of setting up my Mojos in the dove field.

I have 10 more years to go until retirement then I can hunt and fish any damn day I want. I guess I'll brake out the Irish Whiskey and dream about how awesome this duck season is going to be.

Be careful what you wish for, last year I duck hunted more times than there were days of the season (morning hunts and afternoon hunts) by the end of the season I was beat....I try to pace myself and keep fishing down to only one or two times a week. The hardest thing for me is trying to find someone my age that has the passion and wants to go.....so fuck them, I go with the kids around here.

That sounds like a good problem to have. BTW- you're just a couple hours North of me and I've done a lot fishing in Rockport but never any duck hunting. I'm down in the Lower Laguna Madre and I hunt nearly every weekend of the season. My only complaint is the lack of diversity of the ducks down here. Its mostly pintails, redheads and occasional widgeon. Are ya'll getting good hunts on different species up in Rockport?

Can't complain too much though as it is a sportmans paradise down here in South Texas.

Our number one species is of course red heads.......after that pintails, blue bills, widgeon, gadwall, teal, mottled duck, golden eye and others in diminishing numbers. You should come up some weekend and hunt the party blind with us. We are thinking of installing either a stripper pole or a hot tub, maybe both..........

Looks a little more comfortable than sitting on a bucket in the mangroves. LOL Down here the permanent blinds work for a couple of hunts then all the ducks except the stupid ass redheads will flare from them.

Sound like you have the same type of hunting that we do although I've never killed a gadwall down here but I usually get a couple of mottled a season, a few buffleheads, and occasional whistling duck. But like I said 90 pecent of my bag is redheads and pintails followed by some widgeons.

Speaking of strippers is the crusty clam located in Rockport or am I thinking about Galveston?

Must be Galveston, Rockport is far to conservative to have a strip joint/gentlemen's club. We have far more churches than we do bars.
