I usually get my ammunition for duck hunting from Rogers Sporting Goods. The seem to have the best prices, free shipping and no tax. I shoot mostly Federal 3" 11/4 oz #4's $120/case (half case/250 rounds) I hate state sales tax and like free shipping.

I buy ammo wherever I happen to be when I need it. I shoot federal blue box mainly.

When i was young and impressionable I purchased a choke tube specifically for black cloud shot shells.
Not wanting to own up to making a tepid investment, I've been shooting blackcloud ever since, with remarkably average results.
I buy them where ever those types of wares are sold, mostly fleet and farm.

You know that "Black Cloud chokes" will work for anything, right? The only reason they are considered that is because they are not ported and/or wad-stripping chokes, so as not to screw with the performance of the FliteControl wad. I will likely be shooting Hevi-Metal out of my Kicks Vortex (Black Cloud choke) this year. I actually prefer the "Black Cloud chokes", as I've had my ears rung plenty of times from ported chokes and they seem to pattern just as good, if not better, than their ported brethren.

Rogers, Dunns, CTD - buy a couple cases of whatever's on sale, so usually Experts.

I did not know any of that.

Shotgun ammunition cases used to contain 500 rounds. Along comes steel shot for more money and the "case" was reduced to 250 rounds.

Was this in the 60's or early 70's? I don't ever remember 500 rounds in a case.

Same here. A case has always been 250 for as long as I've been able to afford one.

yes, thru the 80's. We didn't start seeing 250 round "cases" until steel shot was mandatory. Wish I wasn't able to remember anything but steel shot.

Alot of pistol and rifle ammo comes in 500 round cases I think. Never heard of 500 round cases for shotguns although it would be a nice option.

And before I started buying cases of shotgun shells the cases were made of wood.

Notice the end of the Federal case "250" and the end of the Winchester case "500" The Winchester shells were 3 1/4 dram equivalent, 1 1/4 oz #6 chilled shot.

i'd pay extra if they started selling shells in tasteful wooden boxes again. i bet i could find 500 uses for the box.

I got some old boxes similar to that one, but they were dynamite boxes. Unfortunately some one painted them green at some point. Nice boxes though.

Not much more than shot that when it is dropped from a shot tower it goes into cold water. Said to make it harder but in reality, it is the composition of the alloy that determines hardness.

you can change the hardness of metals by heating and cooling

Where ever I can find kent tungsten and fiocchi lead and steel the cheapest. Usually rogers, natchez, cabelas or Have a little place called nichols, sort of like an old small k-mart, in coushatta down here that has really cheap prices in the other gauges as well. 2-3 years ago I found fiocchi high brass #6 lead for 410, 28, 20, 16 and 12 ranging from 55-75 a case, and bought all they had in stock

Rogers or Dunn's, Federal 3" 3 1/4 #3s, last year I was in a pinch for some and as usual none of the stores close by hand what I wanted. Wound up with a couple boxes of Federal 2 3/4 #2 and was pretty happy with them. Smacked ducks and geese with them.

It's not very friendly to the locals trust me. But they do have a lot of stuff. I will only go there as a last resort.
