how would you handle this?

So, my girlfriend and I received a call from our landlord the other evening, notifying us that we received a noise violation. I'm pretty surprised, since the lady beneath us blasts her stereo for 6+ hours a day and the people next to us get drunk and fire off mortars in the street. Well, I was ready to go down and let the woman below us know what i thought, but my girlfriend asked me not to because she doesn't want us to get evicted. She ended up catching the woman outside when she got home today, so she let the woman know that we're sorry if we're loud etc. Well i just got back from the store and the woman met me outside to let me know that my "bootsteps" are "like hammers on my ceiling" I just told her "Well, sorry." as in, sorry, but i'll walk any fucking way and wear whatever i want to in my place of residence.

So now I know who called us in. We legitimately had no idea this was going on either, and we see ourselves as very quiet, respectful neighbors. we don't have loud music, we don't have people over or even have tv, so we can't be making that much noise. I'm fucking pissed because I have every right to walk around in my apartment and wear whatever footwear i want. That bitch has NO fucking right to blast her music until shit falls off my table. On top of that, the first i hear of it is a formal noise complaint, she doesn't even have the stones to come talk to me first. I held my tongue because my girlfriend wants to handle it diplomatically, which i'm well beyond now. What would you do? depending on how this plays out in the future, as in if the landlord tries to evict us, i'm thinking i'll threaten to take them to small claims court, a threat i fully intend to follow through with.

Talk to your landlord, find out what the complaint is about. See how it goes from there.

If it goes south. Talk to your girlfriend and move. Throw a big moving party before you go. Just so they have something to remember you by. Your next to last day there, lay your speakers on the floor, turn it up to 11 and leave for the night.

I'd just take it easy and take my boots off when I got home. You're living in an upstairs apartment and should try to be respectful to your neighbor below you. The next time she plays her music loud politely ask her to turn it down. If she doesn't file a complaint.

Some people walk loud as fuck. I have a friend who is not a big girl by any means, probably smaller than I, and she walks like a fuckin elephant. Walk like a human and not a neanderthal and I bet the complaints stop. You don't have a right to walk how you want because you live above someone else. Want to walk how your want, but your own place.

Ps, I've been drinking and I'm ornery

File a complaint for loud music. Every day. For a month.

Then buy a pair of clogs.

I'm almost positive "walking" doesn't qualify as some sort of unacceptable behavior. Nor do "footsteps" qualify as something which is disruptive or out of the ordinary.

Any complaint that you make to the manager now about her loud music will be looked at as a "tit for tat" situation, and since she fired first it will look like you're the one being a bitch.

Fuck it, wear your boots all you want. Hell, go to the boot shop and have him put a set of taps on the heels.

When you get evicted plug the bath tub up and turn it on and walk away.

holy shit, somebody else gets it! now Jim, would you quantify yourself as a twinkle toes fairy? i'm 170ish, not the biggest dude out there, but when i walk, i can't really hide it unless i'm wearing teepee creepers and trying to stalk Bambi's dad. How quiet do you feel is an acceptable level?

I'd pull up any carpet and replace with all laminate. That'll teach her to run her cum dumpster.

Find a new place to live, perhaps buy a house.

Have a week of moving parties with all of your friends if you have any. Make sure one of your friends bangs on her door and asks if she has any spare beer. Make sure another friend throws up on her doorstep.

Plug up the toilet above her apartment and let it overflow all night and the next day.

Before you leave for work on your last day put a pound of bacon on the stove with the burner turned up high. Make sure the toilet is still running and the stove is still on.

You know that you are going to loose your deposit don't you. Be sure that before you move all of your good stuff out, move some junk in and get a good renters insurance policy.

Tell your land lady that you really love your apartment but you cannot put up with the harassment from the down stairs neighbor, the one that turns her music up after you have asked her to keep it a little more moderate.

i don't know what was said to the landlord, she stonewalled any questions my girlfriend asked. We just got told "noises" whatever that means. At this point, i'm going to let the whole thing die, but if i hear about it again, i'm going to lose my shit.

You have apparently never lived under a family with kids.
