I'd like to see MT have a highschool shotgun team. I just need some ideas on how to address the school board about this request? Have people sign a petition, an official meeting?

After you're done, you could go teach the cow to drive your truck home.

Why not ask someone at the school about it? Do other schools in your area have teams? Why does it have to be through school? Start your own league with other like minded students.
No reason to start a petition or have some "special" meeting if you have no idea what you are going for. Talk to someone at your school who would know if this is even an option first.

Walk in the front doors of the school waving your shotgun around yelling "CAN I HAVE EVERYBODY'S ATTENTION PLEASE!!" right before first bell in the morning. Make sure you say please or they'll think you're just being a dick head.
At this point you'll have everyone's attention, I promise, lay your sales pitch on em and see how it goes.

You try it first and tell how it goes for you...

I guess I am interested in a competitive and dedicated shotgun team or teams. You know something where were doing ATA or NSSA shoots 2-3 times a month. With practice 2 times a week.

In Montana, I think you could pull it off but there are some logistic problems.
Traditionally, school teachers want all the money......so it will be hard to get the school board to fund any part of a shooting program.
Most school programs must be educational to stand any chance of being accepted by the school board...........on the other hand, how is football educational or any other sport for that matter.
You must adderess the problem of school students and firearms.......Where are the shotguns to be stored, where will ammunition be stored
Without teacher supervision, it cannot be a school program........Where will the money come from to pay for teacher supervision?
So, with no funding, no pay for supervision and the fact that all programs are open to all students where are you going to get shotguns for students that don't have them, ammunition too?
Seems to me that you need a big corporate sponsor that will provide shotguns and ammunition, and someone with that much money will probably have some influence with the school board and be able to fund and store the guns and ammunition for the program.
You need to find a sponsor, make the program successful and then get the school board to joint venture with the sponsor until such a time at it becomes so popular that the school board will support it.
Good fuckin luck!

Contract the NRA. I'm sure they have someone to help with your situation...

File a lawsuit against the school, the county, and the state. Claim that your rights are being infringed apon by there not being a school sanctioned and sponsored shooting team at your high school! Go big!
Or first ask someone at the school about the possibility of said organization, then sue the fuck out of them when they say no.
Get some info first, the Internet is great for advice. But we don't know you or your school or any school guidelines that are in place at your school. Find that stuff out first, it might be as simple as asking (Probably not!) but you don't know. So before you get the NRA, the NAACP, NAFTA, and NATO involved, go ask. Just my 2 cents, you can sue me after you are done with the school, county, and state.

Find a coash for your team.
Find a coach from another high school team, Talk to him. Ask him to help
Find somebody from your gun club (trap & skeet directer, Board members, easy to find help here)
Find parants to help
Come up with a plan for school or school board.
mnclaytarget.com poke around here, check your state see if you have the same.
its a start, you start an you will find alot of help...
Good luck
Ken

It'd probably be easier to just find a youth league at a local gun club and support that. Seems like it would be a real uphill battle to get a new program going. Are there other schools in the district that have shotgun teams? I would think it'd be easier if they already had someone to compete against. A gym teacher at the high school I went to has been trying to organize and start a fishing team for years but has never got it off the ground, so I know it can be real difficult. If your set on doing it tho I'd find an administrator that has a outdoor background if possible and sit down and talk to them. Worst they can say is no. Good luck
