Finally got the oldest in a class. Last two years in a row, the class she was enrolled in was cancelled because of hurricanes.

I feel like I'm being watched. It should be called "don't do what Jim does".

The best line from an instructor so far:
"We're not here so you can be a good hunter, we're here so you can be a safe hunter"
While I know what he meant, it made me chuckle.

Best line from a student so far. From a 10 year old girl, when asked about what you can do to keep a landowner you hunt on happy:
"Don't threaten to kill him"

Line that pissed me off the most so far:
"You don't listen to what your parents tell you, you listen to us. We know what we're talking about."

This concludes the update for now. Another hour tonight, 2 more Wednesdays, and a Saturday, so in sure there will be more.

according to the 50/50 rule the chances of two hurricanes occurring on separate events is 25%. Those odds suck buddy. Glad you got the better side of the coin this time around.

I'm gonna enroll you in the remedial 50/50 online class. Hopefully it won't be cancelled. Because you need it.

When I took it there was a 9 yr old boy in the class who swore up and down he could make any shot on a deer that they had a picture of. Couldn't find a pick of the poster, but it had different quartering shots, the iconic Texas heart shot, deer standing behind trees and such, with only about 1/4 of them being ethnical shots. That's about all I remember from my course. A lot they say is common sense, but some of it makes no sense in a practical setting.

I can count on zero hands the number of times I've completely unloaded a gun to cross a fence. Or even partially unloaded, for that matter.

I usually don't even lean mine against the fence, just go for it. I also usually leave my guns loaded in the truck, take the shell out of the chamber but its still loaded.

I did learn something new- you can no longer rifle hint within 1 mile of a school, occupied or not. I have absolutely no clue if schools are within one mile of any of the places I hunt.

All I can remember from mine was one of the instructors ripping the revolver from my hands. Aparently you're not supposed to play russian roulette during class, not even with dummy rounds and no firing pin.

Didn't happen to me but a buddy saw it in person, the hunter ed Instructor os also a state trooper, told the class "there will come a day where your dad will tell you to do something that is illegal, don't listen to him and remember what we taught you here". He was caught off guard and didn't know what to say. My kids had the same instructor, I was prepared with an argument but the statement was never made. I'm thinking someone else made a complaint or something.
