are eligible for unemployment benefits during the shutdown.

Unemployment money comes from the government.

How the fuck is the government saving any money during a shutdown if workers are being payed anyways?

Can someone explain this to me please.

In economics this morning the professor said that a bill has been produced that says that all government workers will receive their owed back pay if it is passed.

Not real big into that side of things but the professor said it is impossible for them to passes a budget because Medicare is always an unknown factor. It's really a bunch of bs, I don't understand why they can't just sit down and figure shit out. Did you know that is required by law that members of congress get paid even during a government shutdown? Wonder who passed that.

This is buuuuuuuuullllshit.

If you don't work, you don't get paid. Period. Save the "poor government employees just trying to do their jobs, and feed their families". Yes, so is everyone else in the private sector. When you get laid off because your company mismanaged their business, you don't get paid. It sucks, but it's life. I'm sick and fucking tired of "the government" being different than the rest of us. You aren't special. Your sob stories aren't sobbier. Your kids aren't hungrier. Suck it up and drive on. Get another job or don't, I frankly don't give a shit. But DO NOT expect me to foot the bill for you doing jack squat. It's bad enough I have to pay for so much shit in the first place.

And for those who say "I wish they'd do their job and work it out", not this guy. Keep it shut down. The longer the better. I want NO compromise which sacrifices the principles this country was built on. If some guy says "If you don't let me burn your house down, I'm going to rape your wife", I don't compromise. It's a shoot out, and one of us ain't going to make it. But if he wants to burn my house down or rape my wife, he's going through me first. I don't understand what is wrong with this mentality, but it damn sure is viewed as "wrong", and "compromise" is the ultimate end goal. No, fuck that. Your principles should be the end goal.

And for the record, government employees are paid far better, and receive far better benefits than their private sector equivalents. So you know what? Fuck them. Sorry about your luck.

I HAVE to report to work by UCMJ law.... but if I go without pay for around 5 or 6 months I would be dead in the water. I could possibly make it another 4 months if I sell my four wheeler, boat, and project truck. Everyone in my office is confident that this will be resolved before the 15th but I'm not so sure. I'm stepping up efforts to sell my four wheeler right now.

I wasn't busting your chops, Hammer. Just in general. When I heard this this morning, I started wigging out. I'm just so damn tired of paying over $600 every two weeks in taxes, just to pay for a bunch of bullshit.

And Olly, you know I'm not talking about the military. I'm talking about federal bureaucracy. I'll give you $150 for the quad. Or you can just bring it and your duck boat and come here for the season. They ain't paying, you ain't working.

I was in in '95 when it shutdown, and it really didn't make much of a difference after about the first 4 days or so. By then, everybody was used to it. The biggest bitch of all was that more soldiers had to pull KP, because the civilian workers in the chow halls were gone. Oh well.

95 was the last time it happened right? If I remember right, you missed a full paycheck?

I don't recall missing one. Maybe I did, but I only got monthly pay, not bi-weekly, so that might have been why. I do remember we we had a 4 day weekend and went up to Mt. Rainier National Park camping. Just parked, climbed the gate, and camped where we wanted. Had as big of a fire as we damn well pleased, too. Was very peaceful without a bunch of dickhead park rangers pissing on your fun.
