Model 12 has found a new home...

Well, since I had $690 bucks burning a hole in my back pocket, I decided to buy the last Duck Gun from the consignment shop. Made in 1941, with a super thick barrel as the pics prescribe below. Only had the bitch for 2 hours, and I ended up rolling 2 teals right over the Dekes. Whack some quacks upside the head for sure. Man, do I love Hevi-Shot Classic Doubles. Gun has a 3" chamber to go along with it, and of course a solid rib.

don't be a dick man, he's like 14

good job Rex, i'd love to have an old A5 for ducks, model 12 would be a close second.

I've only seen one heavy duck and it was a hell of a lot more than $690. So if mister trap master really did stumble upon one, he got a hell of a deal.

My bad, I just figured someone who posts up about special trap ones and whatnot would know what one of the most iconic and most sought after old duck guns was before he bought it.

Now when the hell did I say anything about it Being a heavy duck model; It's a damn duck gun, with a thicker than normal barrel, as you can see from the one picture next to a regular barrel Model 1912. Hell of a shooting gun, and the action runs as smooth as silk.

There is another model 12, last one has a donut-post rib. They want $1100 for it, but! It comes with a 2nd 30" mod. Barrel. The only complaint is the cast off on the gun is ridiculous.

You didn't. Those were the ones fitted with 3" chambers and were heavier built guns for the heavier loads. Its a nice gun no less and a great find.

Last one the shop had. Some old dude brought in over 30 model 12s at least an put them up on consignment. From what the guy was telling me, they were the less wanted part of his collection. Helena, MT is a damn good place to buy used guns like these for dirt cheap. I know how I have something, but it's one I'll. I've been considering selling the Solid rib trap gun I bought a little while. I can't hit angles with it to save my life.

They quit making Mod 12 over 30 years before he was born and Mod 12's lost most of their popularity as duck guns when we were forced to use steel shot.

I owned a couple of solid rib 3" Mod 12's, both with full chokes. If I could find one with a modified choke I would probably use it on any occasion I had to hunt in a freshwater environment. Rex did good in my opinion.

Jgun and I grew up shooting mod 12's. We've killed a lot of critters with them. I bought a heavy duck about 9 years ago for my dad, on Drummond island for $400. Stole it yes, feel bad, not in the slightest bit.

As of right now, I have 4 model 12s. A Remington 31, and a good handful of 870s.

Wow you really did. The one I saw at Cabela's they wanted $999 for it and it was not in the best of shape. Its definitely a gun I want to get my hands on.

I'll let you know if any more Duck Guns trickle into Helena. Helena is a great place to buy old classics, and weird relics for dirt cheap.

The model 12 heavy duck I'm currently shooting i bought at a local gun show. The guy was asking $400 and I talked him down to $350 . He had no idea what he was selling. There were two others at that same show. One they were asking $1100 the other $1300. I planned on using mine so I had screw in chokes put in it and had the forcing cone lengthened. Throws a mean pattern now.

I have a total of $600 in my Al390 and that includes a brand new barrel. I don't have to pump it.

Nice looking old gun. Enjoy it no matter what model it is.

True, but some people like history, and the guns that wrote it. Shooting these guns makes you feel good, and it'll still be shooting when thw aluminum guns are done

Jarbo, I will let you shoot it now and then, no need to be jealous. Aren't you and Hector supposed to be doing a fence? Is it Siesta time already?

That 390 wrote a bit of Beretta history, no?

I was shooting my 1940 era Winchester model 62 yesterday.

I had a 390, great gun. I sold it and bought a Mossy O/U. No need to shoot yours, I have a FABARM. My A5s and the Mdl 12 will outlast them all. I'd rather work with Hector than be a state worker.

Then you must be a sissy or something! ;) This morning I boogied up into the hills just to shoot up some left over shit. Even the 3" 1 7/8oz 4s Remington Nitro Turkey loads that I had didn't really bother me. The .300 WSM I used to have beat the snot out of me. Damn thing weighed barely over 6.5 pounds. It bit on both ends to say the least. I'd rather shoot my Big 8 Mag all day than that .300.
