Shut down...

...how's it affecting your hunting? I'm fortunate enough that it won't be directly effecting me...at least until november 9th...the brant opener.

But I do feel bad for guys who rely on federal refuges. We also have a few unmanned reserves that may or may not be closed. Makes no sense to me to close them since they're unmanned.

Regarding our brant, the only real place to hunt them is BLM land. It's still up in the air as to if that'll be open. That is unless you scull, which I do!

It's going to be a epic disaster in the valley! I can't even imagine how crowded the state refuges will be with 3 major fed refuges being closed.

I was out at sutter NWR yesterday checking my rice field and even the water they pumped into the closed zone is drying up. It's still holding a bunch of birds but I give it two weeks and the water will be gone.

It should effect me much because I hunt private most of the season but it's really going to hurt the refuge warriors.

It might be a good year to be a private land snob. Water shortages are causing less flooded rice. Government shutdown causing even less water. It could be a great year for me. :D

Yes Sir! Our field is flooded by drainage water from other field that are on wells. It's the guys that get their water from the Sacramento River that need to worry.

Sonofabitch I can't wait for season!!!!

The kicker here is, they are paying Feds to make sure no one goes in it.

Lots of angry people here. Some guys spend $300-$400 on non refundable reservation applications for the Fed lands. Sad!

I got bad news for you fuckers, its will affect your hunting. I'm lucky enough to get invited onto a normally stellar piece of private property, but as of now with 2 closed nwr's within 15 miles our shooting has been slowed. Think of them as a 50k acre saftey zone, birds are there - with zero pressure. Why should they leave?
I'm seriously considering buying a CA license for when it re-opens. I hope it opens on short notice, not giving as many of the valley guys time to get up here. It'll be like opening day all over again - only better.

A lot of guys from the Bay Area that come up here to hunt are talking about a lawsuit. It will be interesting to see if one gets filed.

They have water even with it closed? Ours are all dry or close to it. No pumps running!

I don't think you will have to worry about the valley guys. Most go up there simply because it opens a week earlier then the balance of the state. I have to call my friends in Adin and see if hunting ash creek is worth a try when I come get that blind.

I fully intend to hunt wherever the fuck I please if it's still going on when our next split opens. We started our first split yesterday, but I can't remember the last time I've hunted it. It's pretty pointless where I hunt. Wish they'd move this week to the end of January.

The thing that might be a problem to is when they open up the refuges on the west side. Ponds might still need to be mowed and flooded. If the tractor and water guys can't do their job. They will most likely have a smaller quota when they finally open. Until they get the ground work done and water is flowing. Its gonna be a zoo out there.

I already paid my $20 annual hunting fee at Assateague Island, and I don't care if it's a National Park or not. You took my money, bitches, and now I'm going to hunt. Although if this thing lasts until the middle of November, I expect there will be bigger problems than them worrying about me and my little boat hidden back in a gut somewhere.

I should make up some cards, saying "if you're talking, I can't hear you, because you're not even at work", and just hand them out if accosted. Or perhaps, "Too bad your mouth isn't as closed as this park".
