I have one of "those" friends

Season opens tomorrow. He hasn't said boo to me all year. Then yesterday morning he texts me this, "Where you off to for opening day this year?"
This guy and I were new to duck hunting in Humboldt and kinda naturally started hunting together bout 6 years ago.
I brought to the table numerous goose fields and private duck spots. He brought one goose field that he didn't have to work for cause its owned by his MIL. But that's fine. Except over the years he doesn't wanna hunt his field anymore. Every year he wants to hunt opening weekend with us at our hot spots, then suddenly gets too busy to hunt the rest of the season.
His field is on my beat so he asks me to keep an eye on the bird situation.
"hey birds are in like crazy"
"yea I don't think I can make it out this week"
So I mentioned that we were full for the weekend.
Oh and have I mentioned he hates to work for his birds?

Are you hunting around Ferndale?
Just hunt his field when he's not there and if he says anything just say: "I thought we were partners." If he comes back with some lip, tell him that if that's the way he feels and his dick will reach his ass..............

I think I would make it a 51 week question....every week, a very upbeat text or phone call saying "Hey Bill, the fellas and I have all decided to let you guide us on the 2014 opening day hunt. Where are you taking us? Where have you been scouting? You know the season is only 10 seeks away..."
I would be very regular about that once a week call and text, too.

Haha, I got or had one of those buddies too! Would always call before deer season or duck season to try and invite himself along. I started coming up with good excuses about how he couldn't go this weekend but maybe next. Haha. The worst is last time he called me before duck season it was because he wanted to start taking his son out. We hadn't talked in probably 4 years before he called. Gotta love "friends" like that.

It really is tempting. I was out there for a year when I was 21, lots if nice women and the landscape and natural resources are amazing.
The people of California ruin it. I could never live in a state where my AR mag has to be welded to the receiver and can't get a CC permit.
It's not even those laws but the mindset of the people that voted them into existence is why I can't live there.

You can have both those things unless you live in San Francisco.

My buddy lives in Pacific Grove and has to have some nonsensical attachment on his AR. And may only shoot solid copper bullets.

He probably has a bullet button to make it legal, it's a magnet that allows you to drop the mag. Very smart way to get around a stupid law. Copper bullets? Unless he lives in the condor range I don't know why he would have to use only copper.

You can only have a "assault" type weapon like an AR-15 if it was owned and registered before the year 2000 it's also non transferable. Otherwise the magazine has to have a 10 round limit and be pinned or welded to the lower receiver. Or use that stupid locking thing. Or have a "featureless rifle" All of it is BS.
And yes technically I could get a CCW permit. However California is a "May issue" state, leaving it up to the local county Sherriff to decided if you can have one or not. So there is no guarantee.
As a cop aren't you supposed to know this stuff?

You said the mag has to be welded. It does not, if you have a bullet button you can drop the mag. It can be something as simple as a magnet that holds itself in place and you slap with the palm of your hand to drop the mag.
You said you can't have a CCW and you can so what is it I don't know?
It would be irresponsible and wrong if I went around taking AR's from people simply for not having the mag welded when they are in fact still legal.

My whole point was that I couldn't live in a state who's citizens voted for these laws or voted the law makers into office. California IMO could be the best state in the union if it weren't for the majority there.

And you're absolutely right! We never actually got to vote on these laws but the people keep putting these morons in office and that's just as bad. I was simply just trying to point out you can have the two things you mentioned and live here.

Okay if you want to jump back on that.
I was kind of right about the AR-15, you CANNOT have a traditionally unmolested AR-15 in California that was not grandfathered in.
And as far as the CCW goes, I technically could go to the moon too but that doesn't mean I'm going to. I doubt very much unless you live in one of the more rural areas of the state and have more of a reason then "I want it" that I would be granted a CCW. "May Issue" states are just "no issue" states hiding in plain sight.

This is CA, not communist Russia. I know many people with AR's and CCW. But you are right, CA is probably not right for you. It sucks here, I don't know why I even live here.

America is the the greatest country in the world and I wouldn't trade her for anything, even if she needs a tune up every now and then.

Yes or no.
Can I as a California citizen walk into a sporting good store and buy a AR-15 off the rack brand new that has not be altered in anyway?
