I don't call very much and often hate guys than can't put the damn call down for two minutes. When I see ducks out away and thing that they might turn I usually use a hen mallard highball call of about 5-6 seconds (just to get them to look) and then let the decoys do the work. I have a sprig whistle that I use sparingly for closer birds that are looking but wary, I use it for sprig and widgeon. For redheads I usually stand up and wave to get them the hell out of the area after we've shot our limit of the damn things.

What do you do?

Depends on the day and are. Some times no calling...some times soft quacks and feeding chuckles...and other times I never shut up until they are in the pocket. It's all in what the birds like on that particular day.

Call to get them to look, then let the decoys do their thing. We'll call again to get the birds to turn around, but cut the calls off when they're coming in...

If the birds look like they want to play,I call. Some days it's better to just shut up and let them come in all by themselves.

I would say little to moderate depending on how the are responding/acting to the location, decoys and calling. I do just enough to get and keep their attention, at times it's no calling while at other times it's quite a bit of calling. The birds dictate what I do. The calls I carry vary on the location, what birds are typical of said location and weather that day.

What end do you blow in. I don't do much calling they normally just come to my aura!

Yup, I will say I tend to lean on birds alot more when we get a fresh push from up north. New birds respond so well to calling.
