Someone started the 20-gauge thread n caught hell for being undergunned. My grandparents, aunts, and uncles all hunted ducks near Watertown, South Dakota in the 40's and 1950's. They pass shot ducks that trade from pond to pond. My grandmother killed many ducks, was an expert shot, and here is her shotgun.
It is a Remington model 1148 .410-gauge. Yeah.

That's a pretty sweet gun. My grandpa knew a guy that shot the live ducks released at field trials long ago. It comes without saying that to keep his job he couldn't miss. He had a chrome plated .410 pump with a full choke that he shot with. Really wish I could have met that guy.

Part of the action is the barrel slides back and forth. The 12-gauge model is scary.
I have a buddy who has one in 12.

That's how Auto 5s work. Long recoil. You really don't even notice the barrel moving when you shoot one, but that's with the Auto 5. Never shot an 1148 but I think its the same principal.

I have shot it. Its nice and functions perfectly. I have a case of shells for it.
My dad must have been using it for chuckars and quail at the club.
Maybe not, he had 28 gauge over n unders.
He saved that gun for some reason.

I always thought the 410 was the caliber. 40 cal maybe? I knew someone who shot pistol shells out of his, or at least claimed to.

I've never had much luck with the 410, except for that magpie I cut in half as a kid.

Thats too bad. 450 would have sounded much tougher than 410.

45 long colt

Yep. I believe it was the Civil War when it was invented. Soldiers loaded their rifles with birdshot to kill small game and the .410 was born.

No. 410 is a caliber.

Shotguns don't have calibers.
Otherwise you'd be right. It's semantics from old day school of thought er something.

since we are getting all technical. its .410 bore dia. not caliber.also its 45 colt not long colt. everybody get this shit right, there will be a test

most people call it long colt. i was just busting balls. hell even some ammo makers print it as long colt on the box
