We're in a stalemate. He circles up high a few times, and I wait with the shotgun on the deck. No more chickens lost yet, but he is still lurking. It's not over by a long shot. I hope he enjoyed his meal, though. I may stuff his corpse with a half pound of black powder, stick a fuse in his throat, and spectate. I hate that fucker.

I doubt it. you'll feel the pressure, but the teeth won't go through the leather, not the right shape for penetrating flesh.
why? gonna bait the fucker?

Yes. I was going to set a couple box traps in the woods, and get some live bait. I just haven't figured what sort of contraption I'm going to make to put the squirrel in.

make a wire harness like for dogs and stake the squirrel out like the goat in Jurassic park.

That's the easy part. I'm not going to sit and watch it- I need to make some sort of trapdoor type deal. I was thinking something along the lines of Vietcong booby traps, even digging a small pit in the bean field, but can't figure out how to keep the squirrel on top without springing it. Gonna take some thought.

I still think a chicken mojo is the way to go. Has the hawk been eating your squirrels too? Gee God use the right bait son. @

I caught several hawks last year in leg hold traps baited with squirrel tails. In the aftermath of the eagle, I let them all go. And regret every one.

Squirrels are assholes. Hawks are dicks. Good thinking. Carry on.

I thought they sort of "gnawed" through it, though. Didn't think it was a chomp. I really don't know, though. Although I have no intention of letting him sit and gnaw on my hand.

my weekend
by capt1972 » Mon Nov 19, 2012 9:25 am
Saturday....3 cord of wood cut, split and stacked.
Sunday....a .22 cal, a 20ga, a chainsaw, 2 downed trees and a bite to the dogs lip = 1 dead squirrel.
Was at the in-laws this weekend, Saturday is self-explanitory. Sunday I'll help you with. My FIL has been after this last squirrel for a couple weeks. It keeps knocking down the bird feeders. Anyway, we were coming up the driveway just getting back from a sporting clay shoot and the lil' bastard is in the front yard. I get out and go to load a shotgun and tell my FIL to keep an eye on him. He looses the squirrel but says it's in that pine right there. 20 mins later with the .22 now, I still don't see the squirrel. I was about to give up when way up at the top of the tree I see something.....a pine cone?....a squirrel? I wasn't sure but decided to toss a round at it just to be on the safe side. It was the squirrel! He jumps down a couple limbs and disappears again. So now I'm back to the 20ga thinking I missed him with the .22 and now I'm going to have a moving target. All of a sudden the damn thing jumps out of the tree and runs to an old oak with a hole in it about 15 feet up. Out with the chainsaw! Just as the tree starts to fall, out comes the squirrel. The squirrel at this point reminded me of the Tasmanian Devil, just a ball of grey fur whirling around the woods. Any who, I don't get a shot at him due to the fact that my FIL and the dog are in the way. I did at this point notice that he was hit in the gut from the .22. Now at this point the smart thing to do would be to let the squirrel run off and die, but why start thinking now. Off to cut the next tree down that has a hole in it to climb into.
So, the next tree comes down, the squirrel comes spinning out of the hole again at mach 2 but this time I get a shot off. Dead center in the pattern but he keeps running. I shoot again, he keeps running. At this point its way beyond personal! I send the dog and she tracks it to a hole under the neighbors wood pile. The dog sticks her head in the hole and comes out with the squirrel, its dead. NOT! The squirrel has now attached itself to the upper lip of my dog via its teeth. The dog is howling and running in circles...backwards. I get a hold of the dog and squirrel, detach them from each other and promptly step on the head of the squirrel.
Can't wait to see what happens next weekend!
