Starting to stress a bit...

...even though I shouldn't be. Long story short, my buddy's buddy is a local elk hunting guide. Well last year he guided this dude from Colorado and put him on a nice Roosevelt (big $$$). Well bout a month ago, Colorado calls the guide back and says he would like to shoot a brant for the wall. The guide doesn't know of any brant guides and gets ahold of me to ask if I know. I know of known. But I tell him as long as Colorado's cool and a good dude he can tag along with me. So Colorado gets in touch with me and we go over the particulars and plan this hunt for the last two days of the brant season. Seems like a good dude and understands how fickle waterfowl can be. But this season is particularly slow. I've given him updates on how our little seasons going and he still wants I come out. So I know that's on him. But I'd still like to get the guy a few birds.

Don't worry Red. I'm sure one way or another you'll "get'er done".

I just went through that for 5 days with my BIL. He's a hunter, and would've understood had we seen nothing. But sitting in the marsh, waiting for birds to appear, or in the woods, waiting for deers to show up, is stressful as hell when somebody's got their expectations hung on you. And he's family, not some stranger.
Best of luck, and I hope the birds cooperate.

Perhaps Jehlers magic 8 ball could ease your mind.

Just tell the guide if colorado shoots even 1 brant that you'll be expecting to shoot one of his deer next fall.

If he understands, there's no pressure. Yeah right. I feel for ya. On the flip side, if you shoot them up, you might find yourself shooting an elk one day in the near future.
My wife's cousin from Puerto Rico wants to go archery hunting one day soon in PA. He puts me on the tarpon when I am down there so it's hard to refuse. I told him I don't deer hunt and hunting ain't like fishing. He says he knows. I hope he does. Archery hunting isn't forgiving to beginners.

I get the same way when my buddies come out in the spring for snow goose season. We always kill a pile of birds in the time they are here but that first scouting trip to find them is nerve racking.

Ain't gonna happen. For the price of the landowner tag, which he paid, I could buy a truck. They ain't giving that away. And I don't want anything anyway. Gratification that I made this dude's day would be enough.

Don't give it a second thought red, just tell the guy that Brant hunting is only so-so in the best of times and quite often it isn't the best of times. Be sure to take along a thermos of Irish Coffee and a flask of brandy for when the coffee is gone. If Mr. Colorado is used to hunting with a guide, he is used to paying big bucks. Just getting to go hunting should be enough, but if you shoot a couple of birds, he should offer you a financial gratuity, weather or not you accept is up to you. The important thing to remember is that 'you' are going hunting and taking someone along.....it is yourself that you have to please with the hunt.

What's the worse that can happen. Not shoot anything? Anyone that has done any amount of hunting. Have had good and bad days. I wouldn't sweat it.

I'm with Ron, some hot coffee a flask and good conversation will make his day. A bird will just be icing on the cake.

When he gets out of the truck look him square in the eye, stick out your right hand for a firm handshake and confidently say "This ain't my first rodeo".
He'll know you know what you're doin.

When is this Brant Hunt?
Red, I'm sending good juju your way! Even the thought of people relying on me to produce waterfowl for them makes my stomach churn.

there's a difference. One you have total control. The other, you're at the will of an animal with a peanut husk for a brain.
